this article should give you a good outline of what equity is.

It depends what you mean by value.

Equity is the percentage of the pot that you stand to win at that point in the hand. For example, if you have a flush draw with 9 clean outs on the flop, your equity in the hand is ~35% since your flush draw will come in to win the pot 35% of the time.

Your equity will depend on how many players are still left in the hand. Generally speaking, the more people left in the hand, the lower your equity. This is because collectively, your opponents have more outs to beat you. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, because if there are six players in the pot and your equity is 45%, you have a huge equity edge that should be exploited by betting and raising.

When people talk about betting for value, you're betting because you have an equity edge. If your equity is 50% (meaning you stand to win the pot half the time) and you're heads up, you have no equity edge and you cannot raise for value. But if your equity is 50% and you are facing two opponents, you can bet for value, since you'll be putting in only one-third of the chips but will be winning the pot half the time.

thanks moon thats reallly helpful, so in a simple way of saying it the higher your equity the higher the likelihood u should be betting/raising, depending on factors like opponents etc.
