Final table of 18 man. Top 4 paid. Co had been very loose and weak, running about 50/20 over 75 hands. However, I had recently doubled up through him and he had been noticeably tighter, aka he did not want to miss the money. I gave him credit for having an ace because I figured there was a decent chance he did and even if he didn't I could find a much better spot than this. Thoughts?

I'd be inclined to agree with you. If he's been noticably tighter, then there's every chance he has an A. He might have a few 9s in his range, but I think you could probably get a better spot.

Almost certainly not folding. Imagine he didn't have an ace. Would you expect him to bet when checked to here? If the answer is anything other than a firm "no", then you can't fold here.

I'm with Chris. Your M is 9. You can't fold TP hands in this spot.

Raise pre flop and/or bet the flop. Checking here just seems terrible IMHO.

What? Why? Because it's essential to make your opponent fold QJ instead of betting it?

Edit: The main problem is that you haven't posted a thought process, which leads me to believe that you haven't followed one in coming up with the idea that checking is terrible. The aim of poker is to win chips of your opponent. Betting here might accomplish that in one of two ways. The first is to get him to call hands which he wouldn't bet himself. Given that I expect him to bet any pair here, this doesn't apply. The other is to protect your hand, getting him to fold hands which have a good chance of beating you. I don't expect to be able to get him to fold a pair or a flush draw and nothing else can easily beat an ace, so that doesn't apply either. (The other reason you might bet here is to balance out frequent bluffs in this spot, but versus some 50/20 ****** the idea of range balancing is pretty lol).

Don't want to seem like a jerk but if you just post stuff like "checking here seems terrible", then your post is worthless. You need to be able to explain why checking is terrible and if you can't do that coherently then you should rethink your ideas on poker.
