Pokerock - read my poast. #42. There are people out there who simply cant do this no matter how hard they try. And the question was can ANYBODY. I have worked with and done my personal best to get these people up to speed. It was simply out of reach for them.

That being said I am a HUGE fan of the power of positive thinking and implement it into nearly everything I do. It has worked wonders for me personally

Maybe you're just a poor teacher?

Are you aware that as a teacher, your students reflect your expectations?
Meaning if you expect a student to perform poorly, there's a much higher chance that student will actually perform poorly.

Maybe it's true that some people can't be a professional poker player no matter how hard they want it and no matter how hard they try.
You seem to believe that, I don't. Since there's no way to prove either it's pointless to continue arguing about it.

But what's the point in telling someone, or anyone, they can't do something?
It'll just make things worse, nothing good can come from it.

Maybe the person you think could never be a pro poker player, can become a streamer and stream poker professionally.
True, that person isn't making money directly from playing poker, but that person is making money indirectly from poker.
And there are probably a thousand other ways to make money in poker without actually being a winning player.

But if they give up before they ever get started, because someone told them they can't do it, ... Well then they have no chance at all.

It honestly offends me when someone tells someone else they can't do something.
Even if it's just in a general way like you did here.

I really believe that anyone who asks this question and puts the work in sincerely will improve their game and them becoming a pro would not be a problem unless they realize it is not their real calling or understand that poker is a really hard way to make a living.

That said, I've had over 15 students of mine whom I have coached so far -actual paid coaching. And all of them had improvements in their games both subjectively (they said so and I think so) and objectively (improved winrates and binked tournaments live and online).

I don't think it is not because a person is trying, but it is because they are not really trying but only merely putting the hours in without the actual work (ie: lack of deliberate practice).

Also do not mess with me and my monkey twin from Belgium!

Merry Christmas, no hard feelings

I would say this is an economy issue.
With unlimited funds anyone can be a winning player if they put their minds to it. For some it will take longer time and more money before getting there but they will if they don't give up first.
Normally people give up when they think too much of their roll is gone but with unlimited funds that wouldn't be an issue.

"Do you think ANYONE can be a pro-poker player with enough hard work..."

Nope. A competent chess player, yes; a successful businessman or an actor or police officer - sure.

But not ANYONE! Perhaps a vagrant with time on their hands who finished high school could do it. My missus couldn't do it. Her Freemason brother couldn't do it. Even the experienced gambler who taught me how to play couldn't do it.

There's a million reasons why this would be but having said that:

ANYONE can win a tournament. IF they took the money and ran they'd be a winning player. But they never were and never will be a pro-poker player.
