Well all of my income has come from poker since about September of 2005. But I was in college from then until May 2007 and I've been in law school from August 08 to the present ... and even in the time in between I had pretty low expenses and was lazy enough to only play like 15 hours a week.

Though also I got married this year (June) and my wife has a 9 to 5 .... so that income too (though it's actually more a 7:45 to 3:45 cause she likes going in early and getting out early).

P.S.

I didn't vote. Not sure which I should vote .... so just said how it is.

from 2006-2009 all my income was from poker, since then i withdrew pretty much everything from online minus a small roll. i just graduated school and am looking for a job or possible military career. I play ALOT currently since i'm unemployed but its really just for fun. Even if i ran super hot and was able to move up to a decent level i wouldnt even consider play professionally

edit: and yes alot of people who post in BQ arent beginners, some just like the people in this forum and the difference with us and other forum posters is we have the patiences to answer the same question over and over again and post links

I dont live from poker, and I doubt I ever will.

For me its just a good hobby, that I really enjoy while i can make a some side money. Its like some people use all their free time to play video games, train their dog, play soccer or whatever. I just feel lucky that i have a hobby i enjoy, while i can earn a litle pocket money at the same time :-)

Im averaging rougly + 400 $/month since i started about 1 year ago.

I belive i can increase my monthly as i get better, and move up in stakes. But i will never quit my job to play poker full time. Unless i would win like millions, wich is pretty unlikely since i only play micro games online, and some live tours with very small Buy ins, or lowest cash games aviable.

I was a pro for almost exactly 4 years. 4.5 Million hands career hands. Retired to a somewhat more traditional job near the start of this year.

Stay in school, kids!

I've been living off it for a while, it's fun. Here's a link to my story, maybe it'll motivate some of you.

Nope, it's recreational, but I still want to climb up.

It pays for my weekend night outs when I play live though.

I want to become good at poker so that I can make some money from it. But only as a hobby that also makes you some cash (as opposed to most usual hobbies that require you to spend money on them ).

However, I will never do this for a living. I have a very good job that pays well and that I usually enjoy, and most importantly, it is a job that makes difference in the society and helps people. While on one hand I really like the idea of making (supposedly easy) money by playing a game, on the other hand I want to be a productive citizen

He is now chip leader out of 4 after betting big on the river to get Juanda to fold. Go go go..... Looking good!

Just had this hand

3.55pm: Vamplew again (and again)
David Vamplew raised to 240,000 and only John Juanda called from the big blind. The flop was K♥2♣9♥ and Juanda checked. Vamplew reached for chips and Juanda mucked before he'd even counted them.

Next hand, Wasek opened to 250,000 and Vamplew re-raised with a mountain of chips - enough to put Wasek all-in. The man from Poland folded quickly. -- SY

Oh and I do not play professionally. I started playing online 3 years ago. I play for the competition. I have played sports my whole life: soccer, tennis, football, hockey, etc. Well after 3 shoulder operations and a torn hip labrum my sports days are over. I found online poker to satisfy my need for competition. For me it's not about the money but instead it is about beating the tar out of people and taking their money. Luckily I work for myself and make good money and have time to play online when I want. Oh and to what CMAR said.... STAY IN SCHOOL!!!! Poker will always be there for you to play.
