Do Wells Help You? Do Wells Help You?

I have had more than one person and more than one poster recommend various wells to me over the years on this site when I ask them for tips on how to get better. Some have been entertaining, some interesting, but I have never found them to be a good source of learning.

I don't think they have ever really helped improve my game.

I am looking to hear from people who don't find this to be the case and perhaps get some specific information on how they helped you improve.

For those beginners not in the know, Wells are threads started by a well-known player in the Poker Community and provides an avenue for people to ask said player questions.

Besides being an interesting read generally, the wells I have read have all contained solid gold throughout the thread. Well worth the effort.

If you're looking for strategy, a well thread isn't the place I would be thinking to find it.

it's good entertainment, sometimes it gives some general insights about how the player sees the game.

I wouldn't look there for specific strategy though.

Some good reads that can be inspirational and likely have you take something from.

Ironically, I have not read many but honestly still think about Galfond's and Moorman1's wells often. There was nothing defined, but a lightbulb seemed to go off with regards of how to think about poker and just the thought process. For instance, Moorman's was basic and probably not much to be had from it, but you just sense how he thinks about poker with his answers and continually mentions something along the lines of "sometimes the cards simply don't matter" and it just seemed to trigger a switch about spot dependent situations and various lines which really makes you focus on range and also helps with discussing and learning poker.

I always said, even if you learn just one new thing (or even better, if it simply solidifies what you already knew) then it's worth it.
