I’m not sure if this is a beginner question or not, but it definitely effects me a from time to time. .

How does one stay focused and disciplined while playing long and sometimes tedious games or sessions? My inspiration for this thread was a game I played last night with some friends. I opened up very well, by doubling my stack in the first hand, but afterwards I lost interest in the game. I can’t explain feeling; I just felt sick to my stomach and had nothing but contempt for the game. Not long after, I left. Thinking back on it, I regret leaving and can’t shake the feeling I could have just stuck with it. I now feel like a lazy coward.

Has this ever happened to you before and if so, do you have any tips on how to correct this kind of behavior?

I see no point in playing when you have this feeling.

Don't play unless your playing your A game or near best game, your descicions won't be as solid and you can miss tons of value spots as well as basically just wasting your time. If your not there to crush don't play at all.

U prob felt that way cuz u doubled up so early. Subconsciously didnt want to start playing scared poker. And the result was disinterest in the game.

But yea, dont play unless u feel the FIRE!

When you are playing with friends, you have to deal with sometimes playing when you hit those spots. Just have fun and socialize and nit up for awhile and then hope you start feeling better and get back to poker. I am assuming this is a game where you don't want to just leave after doubling up since it is with friends and can sometimes ruin the game.

Wow. I think poker is not for you if you feel this after doubling up.

I usually feel this after losing 6 BI (4 to coolers, 2 to tilt) in 20 minutes, not when I double up.

Leaving was probably the best thing you could have done.

Other option would be to go eat dinner or something then come back and see if you were more on your A game.

yea i agree with this 100%, most players play because they enjoy the game, not just as a way of making money. theres tonnes of other ways to make money rather than sittin for hours doing somethin that makes u feel sick!

u shudnt feel like this after doubling up anyway!

I used to go on tilt a lot, do tilt at times. People may laugh at me for this but I read BG's book and he says if he plays bad, he goes to the toilet, throws water around his face and says if I continue to play bad I quit, admit it to yourself.

Such easy words but they are so true imo.

Although I defo agree with the above posters. How can you possibly lose interest once you double up? Mind-boggling. I think some people get a win and say that will do, even though there is more money on the table to be won.
