I would like to spend more time analyzing my database (PT4) for NLHE cash games. I've familiarized myself with how to run filters but I'm really not sure what spots I should be looking at.

How do you guys construct your study sessions as it pertains to analyzing your DB?
What are some of the filters you like to run?

Hope that's not too vague. I'm a study noob.

I use HEM, but I think you can do almost all the same things.
I look at the positional report and then run filters like "cold called pre", "3-bet", "called 3-bet", "call river", and if there are any numbers or frequencies that look out of whack, I'll look at the hand histories. If I'm not sure if my numbers are "out of whack", I'll ask a buddy, or the forum.
Note that for many of the filters, you need a massive overall sample size before you can draw any firm conclusions. e.g. it's possible to show an actual profit when calling 3-bets in a small sample (due to running good), but over a larger sample, you should just be trying to limit your losses to the size of your standard open. i.e. If I run the filter "call 3-bet", I expect it to show a loss rate of 250bb/100 or thereabouts in the long term.

Thanks Arty. I believe you can run most of the same reports on PT4. I think HM is a little more intuitive on how you filter data but PT4 still gets the trick done.

I just got PT4 upgraded to the beta that has the Ignition import option and I hadn't been downloading HH's in the past so it's going to take a while to build a large enough sample size to glean anything from the data as you pointed out. 3bet pots are one I've been looking at the last few days especially around CO vs BTN and late position vs blinds. I suppose it makes the most sense, at least to me, to look at areas that are quite frequent and have the potential to see a lot of money go into the pot.

Yeah. Pots between LP and the blinds are the most frequent, and 3-bet pots between SB and BTN are especially important, because they are both frequent and bigger, so mistakes in those are more "expensive".
