Can you make a living or a hobby at 25nl? Can you make a living or a hobby at 25nl?

Hi,I'm new to poker and I have no idea how you can calculate your income.
I've seen some threads in TPT and it said something like this
BB/100*8
What does BB mean and why is it divided by 100?
I'm a noob at this and I have no idea how you calculated like that,
I want to make an income because my salary in Romania is shitty
and it is around 400 to 600 dollars.
In my country the salaries are low if you are an unskilled worker. That's my situation and I have no idea how to improve it from nothing!
Also is there a way to avoid taxes in your country?
I want to gain money by playing the game and paying just doesn't seem right to me.
I mean aren't these money earned by hard work in poker?
Should my expactations be low if I have bad luck at let's say 10 hands in 5 minutes?

ITs BB out of 100 hands so say your rate is 4bb at 25nl you earn on average 1.00 every 100 hands this is average as bb/100 is done from your total hands vs total winnings.
Not sure on avoiding taxes with loop holes but they say two things certain in life, "death and taxes." Plus theres many jobs where you work a lot damn harder than playing poker that you pay taxes on

wolly, this thread will be short-lived. You have posted many threads that are essentially the same as this one.... since 2018. "I'm new to this".... does not remotely come close to the truth here.

We really don't need to continue answering the question "why am I a losing player".

@JoeyW So BB is Big Blind divided by 100 hands?

This question can not be discussed on 2+2.

Why not? What's wrong with my question?
Isn't that the purpose of poker? To earn money by playing the game and not paying the taxes?
Is that illegal?

@King Spew

I need money to moke a hobby or something because my poverty is driving me crazy and my parents are not supporting me.
What's wrong with making money by playing poker?
Are you saying that I should get a job and avoid poker for the rest of my life?

Nobody is saying that you can't make poker a hobby, or even as a profession. There is nothing wrong with making money by playing poker. He is saying that it is not appropriate to discuss avoiding taxes on your income. If poker winnings are not taxable in your country, then there is no problem. If they are taxable in your country then you can either move to a country where they are not taxed or deal with the earnings as you would any other earnings.

The most important question for you is whether or not you can actually make money playing poker. Some people can, but the majority of players cannot (or at least they do not).

Did you get a job yet?

You can play ANY level of poker as a hobby. You may or may not have a profitable hobby, but you can certainly play if you enjoy it. It may not be sufficient to pay your bills if you do win, but regardless of how much you win or lose you can always play as a hobby.

The real question you are asking is how much can you win playing 25NL. Maybe I am wrong here, but if you are not familiar with a simple concept like a win rate expressed in BB per 100 hands, you probably wonÂ’t be winning much. The formula you quoted ASSUMES a win rate of 4 BB/100. That may well be much higher than your actual win rate, and yours may well be negative.

If you are serious about playing 25NL you should already have about $750 in cash that you donÂ’t need for bills, food, rent, etc. if you donÂ’t have this kind of cash just sitting around, I would strongly recommend either playing at a lower level or not playing at all. Regardless of what level you play, your bankroll should be about 30x the max but in for your game. This will prevent you from having a high risk of going broke when you have a downswing (and you will have a downswing- it happens to all poker players). This amount is a bit flexible depending on your willingness and ability to add more to your poker bankroll from your other income. What is not flexible though is that you should NEVER be using money needed for bills, food, rent, etc. to play poker. Only play with money you can afford to lose.

If you truly are new at this, your experience at 25NL probably wonÂ’t be too positive. Most players at that level are pretty decent players and unless you just have a natural talent for poker, you likely will lose. I would suggest starting lower - you still will probably lose for a while but at least learning how to play will cost you less. Move up only after you beat a lower game for a relatively long time.

And if your idea for poker is “I need some easy money quick because I’m broke”, well it probably will not go well for you. Making money at poker is a marathon not a sprint. An AVERAGE win rate for a good player might be something like 5 BB/100, but that does not mean you will win at a steady rate. You likely will go through long periods where you lose or break even. Even if you are a winner your average of 5BB/100 would translate (assuming multitabling 5 tables) into maybe somewhere about $3 per hour.

IÂ’m not trying to tell you not to play poker. IÂ’m just saying that if making money is your primary concern, finding a second job might be an easier and more certain way to go. I have no idea if $3 per hour is more or less than what you might make by working a job where you are, but to get to that $3 per hour will be tough sledding and there are no guarantees that you ever will do so.

No you are not.

Illegal tax avoidance scheme discussions are not allowed by 2+2 management. Take it up with the owners.

Please search for all the posts you have started in the past. You should see that your learning curve... is close to zero.

MY opinion is that poker is not a good hobby for you and that poker will never be an option for you to escape poverty. Get a "real job" and work your way to the top.
