Hey,

I was wondering that if there like 7 players on the final table and they all agree that the stacks are way too shallow and would love to have blinds lowered by couple of levels, whether rules do allow this and if it is a custom to at least some extent that a TD would agree to such request from the players?

I think I've seen this happen before, but I cannot recall any specific case.
Thanks a lot!
Tom

I would be annoyed if I had just busted out in 8th with a similar stack size and the blinds actually got lowered.

Cant see any good TD ever doing this.

It's a terrible idea and I reconsider ever playing in a room which would allow this.

It's basically the same as a soccer/baseball/basketball game deciding that since it's been a close game we should extend the game an extra 20 minutes instead of ending it normally.

So let's say there's a football game between random players with money on the result, all players agree to play for 20 minutes extra instead of just the 90 minutes agreed upon beforehand, why is that actually so bad?

I understand some arguments against allowing it wrt the players who have already busted, but it doesn't sound as bad as you're making it to be.

Introducing the ability to change the rules in the middle of the game opens up a ton of angles. Knowing that the game may be extended and the blinds reduced, how do you adjust next time? This gives an advantage over players who are unware of this history and do not make those adjustments. And what rules are going to be changed on the fly next? It becomes a game of who can convince the rules to be changed in their favour without others realizing it.

By agreeing to these changes, someone is making a mistake and giving up advantage. Either they're unaware of it, or they're bowing to peer pressure - Essentially being bullied into acting against their own best interests. If the former, then it's up to those running the game to protect these weaker players from being unfairly exploited by the other players - This is very fundamental to the integrity of the game.

If it's the latter, it's arguably even worse. It shouldn't be up to the players to ensure the rules are followed. Nor should they be put in the uncomfortable position of having to decide between equity and keeping the other players happy. By agreeing to such a thing the TD is abdicating their responsibility to run the game according to the posted rules that everyone agreed to.

They should only do this of it's specified before the tournament starts.

Definitely affects the game before the blinds are changed - i.e. factoring edge into ICM calculations - so no, it's not a good idea.

So I am wrong when I think I have seen this in a big televised tourney, right? (like EPT or smth)

I would say so. Only televised poker I have seen with blinds being changed is cash games and they normally go up.
