I was just reading an article in one of the magazines they hand out at casinos, and it mentioned that the hero had a 54% edge on the villians calling range with the heros pocket 7s.

What is the formula to figure out the edge a person has against a particular range.

Maybe I can give an example of a situation and you can show me the equation to get the answer.

I have 9s and am shoving against a guy who I put on a calling range of AJ+ and 77+, what would be my edge shoving against this range?

I am hoping this is a simple formula that I can use in live tourneys that can be calculated rather quickly.

I am hoping that the amount of BBs you have in your stack, and they payout structure are not involved in figuring this out.

Welcome to the Forums.

To work out your equity against his calling range, you could use Pokerstove, a free program which will tell you your equity against a particular range.

So in this case, you're a 46% underdog.

That's against villain's calling range, of course.

If there's any chance that he'll fold to your shove, then you'd need to take into account pot size and stack sizes to calculate the EV of shoving.
