I think my recent good run is starting to affect the quality of my play. I need to watch some videos or something so I won't donk my roll off when it ends. :P

I think my equity on the flop is around 11%.

^ haha. Are you self tought in PLO8 or is there some books/videos/threads you can recommend? I've mostly played fixed limit O8 and I'm not that good in it.
01-15-2011 , 04:08 PM
sort of self taught.
If you have the original Super System I'd recommend reading the hilo split chapter just for the background to split-pot games (ie don't play for half the pot) Zee's LO8/7S8 book helped a lot and that's all there was when I started learning it. But that's all I needed back then

Dan Deppen wrote an actual PLO8 book last year that I bought before the wsop (and took with me and it was worth every penny) he's just done an expanded edition that I haven't got yet. Jeff Hwang covered it briefly in his first Omaha book.

I have a hand evaluator and keep threatening to finish programming an O8 ICM calculator to see how the split pot aspect affects equity and that kind of thing. But starting with good hands, not playing for half the pot and punishing those that do is a start.

That and getting the hang of opponent thought processes
01-15-2011 , 04:45 PM
Blane, it looks like you played hand 2 bad. That river was awful though, made you get stacked when you could of folded if a brick hit.

Exo: Are you 24tabling 25 & 10nl? What kind of gadget do you use to help? Table ninja?

I just had a nice 600 hand session. Only won 1.2 BIs, but I thought I was down. I 3bet from the btn w/ KQhh and flopped a flush. The guy who flatted my 3bet oop had A9hh and stacked me. Overall I played well, but ran kind of bad.
01-15-2011 , 10:54 PM
Don't feel so good atm. I was up 2 buy-ins earlier at PLO10, feeling pretty good about my game. Then I started running like crap, bluffed against some idiots who can't fold and I tilted off a few buy-ins. At the end of it all tonight I couldn't take much more as I wanted to preserve my roll and quit. -$140 from my peak today. Back to PLO5 again for me, so tilting I'll never beat PLO10 due to the rake and variance and just awful stuff that happens to me.
01-15-2011 , 11:51 PM
24 tabling 10nl... 10tabling 25nl and 4 tabling 50nl going back n forth between them.. and i play on pstars so they have the standardized buttons for % of pot to bet & preflop bet sizing, along with hem

anybody ever reviewed there session only to wonder why in the world they are only up 1buy in even though they stacked like 4-5x in 1-2k hands??... i got stacked once my last session and half stacked and lost a few 10-15bb pots or so but still i won so many pots i dont get why my winnings look so meager... what leaks you guys look for to correct this, cause its a drastic problem i have with mass tabling anything above 5nl
01-16-2011 , 12:38 AM
You're not really going to be able to control every aspect of your game when you're mass tabling. Even w/ a HUD you can't pick up on a villians tendancies w/ anything more than 6 tables.

EXO, whats your stars id? You can pm it if you don't feel comfortable in here.

Up a little bit for the day, a welcome change since I've been card dead so long, and suffered a couple horrifying beats.

Made quads 2 times in about an hour and a half, how about that? First time I flopped em with 44 and got no action, second time I flopped a set with 33 and turned another 3. Board reads J 3 x 3 J. I decide to get fancy and check the river hoping that someone has made a full house, but it gets checked down. Turns out the other two guys were chasing the same flush, too bad the rivercard wasn't a diamond. You live you learn, I guess.

Hit my $200 goal to start taking shots at 10NL. Grinding or a few hours I was down a couple BIs. Then I had a couple of nice hands including these:

SB: $9.23
BB: $6.77
Hero (UTG): $19.30
MP: $3.29
CO: $10.87
BTN: $13.65

SB posts SB $0.05, BB posts BB $0.10

Pre Flop: ($0.15) Hero has K Q

Hero raises to $0.40, fold, fold, fold, fold, BB calls $0.30

Flop: ($0.85, 2 players) J A T
BB bets $0.40, Hero raises to $1.40, BB calls $1.00

Turn: ($3.65, 2 players) 8
BB bets $1.20, Hero raises to $4.20, BB calls $3.00

River: ($12.05, 2 players) A
BB bets $0.77 and is all-in, Hero calls $0.77

BB shows Q A (Three of a Kind, Aces) (PreFlop 72%, Flop 7%, Turn 3%)
Hero shows K Q (Royal Flush) (PreFlop 28%, Flop 93%, Turn 97%)
Hero wins $12.94

PokerStars - $0.10 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players

UTG: $14.79
Hero (MP): $23.38
CO: $9.85
BTN: $16.27
SB: $23.65
BB: $11.27

SB posts SB $0.05, BB posts BB $0.10

fold, Hero raises to $0.40, fold, fold, SB calls $0.35, fold

Flop: ($0.90, 2 players) J Q 6
SB checks, Hero bets $0.64, SB calls $0.64

Turn: ($2.18, 2 players) A
SB checks, Hero bets $1.76, SB raises to $3.52, Hero calls $1.76

River: ($9.22, 2 players) 6
SB checks, Hero bets $6.57, SB raises to $19.09 and is all-in, Hero calls $12.25 and is all-in

SB shows K T (Straight, Ace High) (PreFlop 47%, Flop 26%, Turn 77%)
Hero shows 6 6 (Four of a Kind, Sixes) (PreFlop 53%, Flop 74%, Turn 23%)
Hero wins $44.86

Didn't feel I could stack off deep on that turn card in the last hand there. Thankfully I quadded up on the river but was really just looking for the boat.

Hoping to settle back into 10NL quite nicely as I'm prepared for the breakeven stretches and horrible downswings I experienced last time. Broke even for 8K hands at 5NL due to some horrific beats and just hitting the top of peoples ranges - didn't phase me at all, just kept grinding. I used to be terrible for this and get annoyed with poker but this year and my 1Khand a day challenge have really kept me going.
