both hands are played very very badly

I played some more, about another 800 hands. I was running pretty bad in some spots flopping big hands and then having to make some folds on the river. I wasn't paying attention to one thing and lost a buy-in too which was kinda tilting. Still won just under 3 buy-ins. Poker's going well for me lately.

Mini lame brag from me (I hope this doesn't start run bad) it's been a while since I last had a roll this close to cracking 4 figs, it was maybe a year ago and then I lost over half my roll and lost my interest with poker. I'm still far from my PTR peak but hoping to get back up there. I need to work on grinding up my play chips though (Originally started with $100 at PLO2 and pulled it out when I was tilted.)

This was a mistake. A table I was waiting on popped up. I knew I had top set and I just thought "raise and get it in on flop" it was only after I raised that I realised a possible straight was out there Then I kind of had to call.

I didn't even watch this, I don't know how I feel about these spots. They don't tilt me so much any more. Maybe on a downswing i'd have less patience with it.

This hand kind of felt like a cooler. Against any other set I feel like I had a ton of equity. If villain had 77/66 I have 37.5% equity on turn and if they have wrap hands then i'm ahead. It still wasn't completely terrible vs KKxx but not a spot i'd go for every day.

I played this a bit nitty, the flop felt huge for me. I was a little concerned about AAxx. If i'm sitting with 100bb i'm getting it in on this flop. But I didn't feel it was good 200bb deep. If we got it in i'd have 48% equity so I guess maybe I saved myself a bit of variance as it wouldn't have been pleasant to drop 200bb here.

BB is 8/5 over 40 hands (i know, not much). The fact that the BTN called opens up the ranges that BB could call with. That said, I think the only things in his range that he would call flop and turn with are flushes, sets, and stuff like A8/AJo+/Axs, which make up too little of his range to justify a river call IMO.

I like his bet on the river since he knows I'm checking it down without a monster, and if he did have an ace he's got some nice fold equity. But I don't think 8/5s are thinking that deep.

Just did 350 hands (not much time today), session was pretty much a slow dribble downwards until I stacked a shorty to finish down 5bb. Wasn't getting any cards, wasn't hitting any flops, pretty happy with how little I lost.

Right,

Tonight was my first proper session of 10NL. Perhaps I shouldn't have gone straight into 6 tabling but that is what I am used to. I am currently down 2.5 BIs but one of them was KK vs AA, so I can accept that.

Lets see what info we can come up with here, differences between 5NL and 10NL.

1) Seems to be more fish to me but they are more agro.

2) I get raised a hell of a lot more on flop/turn than you do at 5NL. Im taking a stab at the turn with flush draw/straight draw and I get raised, horrible. Call miss, lose pot.

3) Cbets getting a lot less respect, I was snap minraised a number of times when I cbet dry flops with overcards. Not sure exactly what I can do here OOP but fold, its killing me at the moment though.

4) Getting backraised by fish (preflop). Usually this is AA/KK and I fold easy but its happened too many times to be that, usually its a minraise as well.

Im not playing great, im not running great and together these two are a deadly combination. I dont want to have to drop back to 5NL but I dont usually have many losing sessions there so this 2.5 buy in drop now feels like a 5 buy in drop to me. Its painful, but I need to adjust and move up. Maybe I should nit it up for a while until I can figure a few things out.

To add to that above post..

5) Overbetting the flop. Iv seen a number of donk bets, cbet and just random flop bets of double pot, or 1.5x pot. Haven't worked these out either yet because its hard to get to showdown.

Managed to claw back a buy in and a half since my last post, playing a bit more passive seems to be paying off.

don't overadjust, i've done it enough times during shot takes at 50nl to know

the fish are the same, the regs are still atrocious, but slightly less so than at 5nl

u seem pretty solid so just play solid and you'll be fine

Yeah I think I may have just ran into some bad spots, managed to go from $30 down to have ended the night just half a buy in down so I will take that. I lost KK to AA and spewed a bit too much through getting fustrated.

Will be back on it again tomorrow night and I will try play a bit more solid than I did. Lets see how it goes.

So, I will be starting out on Tuesday night on Cake Poker. Before Black Friday, I ran my bankroll up to around $400 between Full Tilt and Stars from $0. This time, I am starting at around $90-$95 and I'm really exciting to start playing again. I haven't played a single hand of poker since March and it's about time to get rolling again.

I do have a question about bankroll management. I'm receiving a 110% deposit bonus which in total should give me $200 ($95 + 110%). My plan is to start with STTs and play a ton of those until I have built a high enough bankroll to play MTTs in the $3-$7 range. What level of STTs should I start with? The $1.10s on Cake would be good for a $90 bankroll, however including my bonus, what should my real bankroll be considered as, $90 or $200? If I count it as $200, then I could play some $5.50 STTs pretty soon or the $2.20s on Bodog.

Is this Stars? Obviously each site is different.

1) There are quite a few fish at 10NL but not all of them are aggro. Just rely on your HUD, let the aggro ones bluff into you and valuetown the passive ones.
2) I haven't really noticed this a whole lot. A little bit sure but not too too much. If villain does it a lot, take a note that he's a little weird and move on.
3) Some opponents will float (or minraise) low dry flops, because they're clever enough to realize you are probably cbetting with nothing. There's no point continuing unless you're going to pull some pro-level trickery and barrel the turn and river but I doubt that's a profitable line to take. Just accept that they're on to you, fold, take a note (don't cbet low flops against this dude!) and move on.
4) Disregard minraises. Pretend they called and play accordingly. You're getting >3:1, just call and bink a flop (or cbet if you didn't but the flop's good). If they play back at you, take a note and exploit it when you have something.
5) The great thing about overbets is that they are easy to exploit. If they bet 2x the pot instead of just potting it, you only have to call correctly half as often to make the same amount of money. So, just be conservative facing these opponents.

All three times: I raise pre, fold fold fold fold etc. Lather, rinse repeat

However, I have rebounded a bit after a sucky couple of days.

September goals: Try to play at least 5,000 hands. Get back to break even.

Better than 3betting it and getting flatted by multiple opponents and being forced to c/fd on a shi**y flop.

Ended up putting in a couple thousand hands today with my day off. Didn't go quite how I'd have liked. A few hands I felt I couldn't get away from at the time ended up leaving me in the red for the day, but oh well. Next session is always a new start.

Here's some hands (any advice welcome):

Felt on the turn raise he had to J but couldn't fold. Can I find a fold on the river or was my thinking that QQ-88s are playing this way too (although QQ probably would have 3bet PF).

Just couldn't find the fold on the river. Considering how weak his bets were on the flop and turn I figured I was ahead. Just a question of whether he was holding the 4 on the river with that slightly obvious looking valuebet.

Other than that it was a lot of 3betting or raising for value vs. stationy fish and just missing almost everytime.

I tried again tonight. Was up 3 buy-ins at my best point, then donked it off in a few stupid spots. Didn't run well in a few places and quit up about a buy-in. Still managed to crack the 4 figure mark for the first time. Now my next task is to stay above it

Such a big flop for me, villain totally slowrolled me. He was only playing about 6 tables and didn't snap call.

2 folds, Hero raises to $0.15, BTN raises to $0.52, 2 folds, Hero raises to $1.63, BTN calls $1.11

Flop: ($3.33) A 4 2 (2 players)
Hero bets $3.17, BTN raises to $4.79 all in, Hero calls $0.22 all in

Turn: ($10.11) T (2 players - 2 are all in)

River: ($10.11) 6 (2 players - 2 are all in)

Final Pot: $10.11
Hero shows 4 J A A (three of a kind, Aces)
BTN shows 7 4 5 6 (a flush, Ace high)
BTN wins $9.62
(Rake: $0.49)

This was a bit of a mistake on the turn. I made one of those frustrated "I know I just got ****ed but i'm still going to call." calls. Villain was 14% to win on the flop and we're chopping 9% of the time.

Cheers for the advice.

About to start my second session for the day. Lost a buy in and grinded back to a small profit, again a lot of overbetting so I dont think it was a one off. Also had few more backraises but thankfully one of the time they did it I had AA and managed to get it in on K high flop.

I will try post a few hands later on tonight if I can find a few interesting ones.

bleh, had an awful session. Started off almost 2 BIs down, got aces cracked by some dumbass flatting a 4bet to setmine, then lost something like 10 flips in a row against some guy who kept jamming over my pfrs with his 5-10bb stack. Worked that up to only 80bb down before getting shortstacked by some guy who called flop & turn with a pocket underpair and rivered his set.

3200 hands this month, -130bb. I'm sure it will turn around but it feels bad winning small through good play and losing big through bad luck! It really does!

Just logged a late night 500 hands. I bluffed a bit too much in some spots but fortunately ran well in a few other spots. +3 buy-ins on the session. I think that puts me about +4 buy-ins for the day. I'm going to grind a little more at this level then face my nemesis soon. I think i'm playing the best i've ever played and not tilting either, I hope I can keep this up.

lol...not sure if villain was doing this for value or a complete bluff. I had another few hands against villain later on and it seems that they're not always check-raising with bluffs. I thought i'd lost it on the river.

This was literally a few hands later vs same villain as above and hand #1. I kind of wanted to play the hand but it was bad to play from that position and especially against that # of limpers so I decided to 3bet OOP. Flop was crap for a cbet so I was going to check fold. On the turn I was getting it in against this villain. I didn't think they'd flopped a set or had 2 pair so I got it in. I needed a bit of help but got there

drop 50bb, play well for an hour, gain a BI (down to only -80bb now!), get stacked running top pair + flush draw into same-suited overs when the board flushes. Right back to my low point today.

Maybe I should just shortstack like everyone else so the AI swings don't bug me
