Been playing poker for a long time now and I still have not managed win long term online.
Many will say that its because you suck and all the other stuff.
I know my flaws,my two MAJOR flaws are going on tilt a bit to easliy and a lack of discapline knowing when to stop when losing.
Im looking to start back playing online and my question to anyone that can be bothered answering is.
What limits should I play if I want to make $400 a week basic wage.
How long should I play in one session.
How much should my bankroll start with?
In the past i have run up some good figures but blew it all playing to high limts this time I want to maintain a steady income.
Any help would be nice cheers.

Im looking to start of with $250 what limits would you reccomend playing?
Also I agree 100% BR Management is the key to winning one example has to be Chris Ferguson I dont think he's the greatest player in the world but his money mangement is tops not likely to see that guy go broke.

there's no way that anyone can accurately answer this question without knowing what your BB/100 is and what limits you would play.

What do you play, cash? STTs? I'm assuming NLHE and not limit or PLO or something.

Basic, very conservative bankroll management would be:

20 Buy-ins for cash games.
40 buy-ins for STTs
100 buy-ins for MTTs

Look for more detailed bankroll advice as you advance, specifically phzon's posts, although you'll find a lot of great bankroll advice if you use the search function.

Ur only rolled for 10nl right now and ur not gonna be able to make $400/week at this level. Get it to 500 and play 25nl then u could possibly make $400/week if u play enough hands. Sit-n-gos might allow u to get it there. If ur at all a decent player $4 180's on Stars is a great way to build w/ a small bankroll and little risk factor the structures is super slow which greatly favors better players. I FT like 1/4 of these I play.

Thanks for the sound advice I think I'll try playing a few SNG to try and build the BR to where i can play the 25nl.
Maybe leave Omaha alone for a bit,too many swings to early could be fatal.

you should probably establish yourself as a winning player over a large sample before you start worrying about how high you need to play to make a living playing poker online.

a winning player can make $400 a week playing 10nl easily

I'm not sure I'd call it easy, but I guess it is possible.

10ptbb/100 = 10 x 0.2 = $2 / 100 hands
$400/$2 = 200
200 x 100 = 20k hands per week. That's a lot.

Edit - even if you get $100 per week in rakeback and bonuses (not sure how realistic that is for this level), you're still looking at 15k hands per week. Still not easy. Beating 25nl at 8ptbb/100 would need 10k per week before bonuses, which seems a lot more reasonable and sustainable imo.

OP - I'd strongly recommend focusing on ways to improve your poker and manage tilt and bankroll issues. If you really work on these, the money per week will work itself out. Making a weekly wage your focus seems like a really quick way to make sure you tilt and then play too high for your BR.

Many winning players could not make $400/week playing 10nl .

A relatively small percentage of winning players could make $400/week playing 10nl.

For the ones that could, only the few that hated or did not need money should be playing at that low a limit.

Thus using English semantics and logic, I'm having trouble determining whether your statement is true or false.
