While I'm not a beginning player, I thought it would be helpful to get a solid bankroll building strategy discussion.

Starting with 100 dollars:

- What limits would you play at various games? Limit, No-Limit, Holdem, Omaha.

- If you are a sit-n-go player, what buy-in would you play at?

- How long would you stay at that level before moving up?

- What bankroll would you need to play at each cash-game?

If someone could provide a detailed process/chart to get from 100 dollars to 5,000 dollars, that would be awesome.

For me, I played 5 dollar sit-n-gos until I hit around 250 dollars. Then, I moved up to 10 dollar SNG's. I stayed there until around 500 dollars, and then moved to the 20's. However, I dropped back down to the 10 dollar ones when my roll dropped under 300.

Thanks!

Can't comment on cash but your SNG bankroll management was horrendous. Moving up to a new level when you have only 20-25x buyins is a recipe for disaster.

I started playing the 10's when I had 380$ , planning to play the 20's when I have at least 1k -1200.

Most sngers want at least 50 buyins before moving up.

1. Play 2NL or 5NL cash games. If not available, play $1 SNGs if non-turbo format. If $1 SNGs are turbo format, play $2 SNGs. Repeat until BR = $150.
2. Play 10NL cash games (in addition to $2 SNGs). Repeat until BR = $400. Drop back to step 1 if BR = $100 or less.
3. Take a 5 BI shot at 25NL, while still playing $2 SNGs. Alternately, continue playing 10NL but switch to $5 SNGs. Repeat until BR = $800. Drop
back to step 2 if BR = $200 or less. If you lose 5 BI at 25NL, drop back to 10NL.
4. Take a 3 BI shot at 50NL, still playing $5 SNGs.

That's my current plan. I'm in between step 3 and 4, so I don't know what the plan is after that.

I think you should stick to either cash games or sngs
while the play at both levels is probably terrible, its probably better to start with the sngs because of the controlable losses. If anything, play limit with sngs because its very helpful with post flop play and your losses are controlled.

Look at Chris Ferguson's method for moving up levels. However add one thing for SNG dont play more than 2-3% your roll. Preferably 2%.

So you think starting at 5% is way too high of a percentage for your roll at SNGs?

I've been playing .5/.10 NL just trying to get used to the lower stakes for this experiment. I'm trying to do something similar to Ferguson, but maybe be a bit more aggressive (starting out at 100 versus 0, etc)

Good input so far though.

If you have a solid ROI at the non-turbo sng's I think 20-30 buy-ins is fine. For turbos you want at least 50 buy-ins due to the increased variance.

Also I think it's fine to have just 20 buy-ins if you're prepared to move down quickly following a bad streak. This is simply aggressive bankroll building.
