Hi all,

First post but I have been a lurker for a while.

I have been playing poker online pretty regularly for about the last year or so with decent results.

But it seems some days there is just nothing I can do to win a pot, whether it be my pairs get beat or my draws never hit. As a result I am sure I do tilt away a few more bets than I should but I wouldnt say I go to crazy on tilt.

Anyone else have those days that nothing goes right and if so whats your strategy of dealing with them? Stop playing for the day or a few hours at least or just try to play through it?

i don't suggest trying to play through it. that never works.

i usually just go play lower stakes for fun.

TODAY IS ONE OF THESE DAYS ****.

It's always on days you decide to take shots

This is one of those questions where the answer/advice depends for the most part on you. Yes, in general it's probably best to take a break for a day or however long it takes for you to regroup, but some people have what it takes to keep chugging along, taking defeat in stride and using it to raly themselves to play better.

Another possibility is if you're running bad at cash, try a SNG, or vice versa. Or if you're running poorly at NLHE but are adept at other games too, try those for a while, or even just do some play money. Those are viable options if you don't just want to stop in your tracks.

Glad to hear you take shots lol, but sorry to hear you ran bad when you decided to.

I ran bad all last night everytime I hit my hand or even had a made hand it wouldnt hold up finally I said screw it and watched without a trace.

Yea probably LOL.

J/K just review your play and see if it was bad playing or just running bad. I'm going to start recording my sessions and that should help me find the leaks because if I see myself I can say Hey you big dummy your not supposed to do that.

I thought I played good.

Didn't play good at 25nl earlier today, but played good at 50nl.

I pretty much own 25nl, but 50nl feels like a bigger jump than expected. well i think i play decent but have been running like ****... KK vs AA allin preflop, set over set and so on. sometimes theres just not much you can do.

I don't generally review...I remember everything that matters and if I played poorly or well.

Me too Unlucky I think I'm just going to play 50nl until I drop below 1000.

This is something i've had many problems with, and as cruzer said, it's normally when you take shots at higher BI's. Happened to me yesterday when i moved up to $5 SnG's from the $1/$3 ones. Lost 5 BI's in about 1 1/2 hours.

I've found that taking a break for a day or so normally helps. I also try not to spend too much time thinking about how unlucky i got or how badly i played. The only time i'll think about it is when i'm reviewing a session and can try and pin point where i'm going wrong.

Unfortunately sometimes this advice is easier to dish out than follow.

lol I think it is
running like **** tonight again

KK vs AA all in preflop
AA vs KK all in preflop -> aces cracked

its so demoralizing to play good poker for 2 hours and make 150$ winning small pots, then lose it all (and more) in the space of 5 minutes to **** like this. I just wonder when my run of good luck is coming... feels like 50nl is cursed for me. im going crazy trying to find holes in my game, but the fact is im playing a lot better than the avg player but breaking even because i lose it all in unavoidable situations

Almost every hand I caught I was either way ahead and got hit out on or hit my hands at the sametime to get cracked lol. I knwo how you feel

lol i log back on and instantly lose 130$

KK all in preflop (again)

flopped nut straight, opponent rivered full house

turned flush, opponent turned fullhouse

I applaud those who can take it like a man and not whine, cause I'm not one of them.

Should have followed your advice cause I just keep taking more beats. im 'only' down 7 buyins from when i was at my highest, but its killing me.

Guess what.

Highest doesn't matter anymore. Right now is your new highest. Play with that frame of mind.

AA<J7 and the worst part was when someone else said "NH cracked his aces" I almost launched my computer through the window but the best way to deal with it is just take a breather.

You don't want to "play through it" if you are tilting and playing like ass but you also shouldn't shy away from playing just because you took a bad beat its a very thin line IMO.

Don't waste your time thinking about variance. There WILL be suckouts. There WILL be losing weeks let alone days or sessions. You should have accepted that when you sit down at the table.

If you are playing bad for whatever reason, stop. Tilt is included in those reasons. Why play if you're not making the correct decisions? Take a pause and come back when you're fresh again.

I embrace suckouts. Human beings are supposed to feel bad sometimes, if I didn't feel bad about my coolers, I would feel bad for no reason whatsoever, and that would suck even worse. I do get angry, I yell and punch the table, but then I laugh and continue to make the correct plays. Emotions are fun. Try to not let them affect your game though. If you fail, stop playing until they pass.
