For August I am planning to switch to Redkings, start playing NL4, brake even and hopefully collect 1000 points (one third of the deposit bonus that is available for 90 days).

Trying to get my last bit of BR to start august with, 17 minutes remaining, LOL

lol 3rd hand of the month I get QQ and raise up but am 3bet by a 50/3 fish in LP.
Call as I know his range is wide, no high cards so call all the way down and he has KK :/
He gets me in by the river, feel like a fish but then I watch as he 3 barrels against other opponents with Q5o on a board with overcards and no draws as he valuetowns himself with bluffs.

Played the rest of the session ok, but ended up 1/2BI down, not a good start.
Goals: play more, build bank roll and post my stats to stats thread now I have over 10k, clear my Will Hill bonus.

Damnit! Played five minutes too long! KK into QQ and he binked a Q on the flop... Don't ya hate ending a good $$$ day with two bad beats that make you a slight loss for the day? Feels like all that work for nothing

Starting August on a downswing

August Starting BR: $61.29

-edit-

Just realized I complained about breaking even in one day, not realizing I've broken even over 20k hands before, LOL

Goals for July:

[ish] Tighten up UTG (stop playing AJo, ATs, KQ, 22-77 in FR, no matter how pretty they are) - still play KQ and 55-77 UTG.
[X] 4000 hands
[X] Work more on stealing in MW limped pots
[X] Get some money on Stars to learn PLO (actually Everest but I'm counting it)
[X] Think about value lines other than bet/bet/bet (as my cbet % is high, bet flop, c/r turn is very effective. Also b/c/b is good when I have a hand that doesn't merit three streets of value - TPGK against decent players)
[X] Work on double barrelling spots, rather than just doing so because I 'think he's weak' - the 3c is not a good double barrelling card! - I've actually profited DBing with air for the first time this month

August goals:

NLHE:

[ ] 8k hands of 4NL 6max
[ ] Finish off 'Analytical NLHE' and apply relevant concepts to microstakes games
[ ] Bother with table selection - although my sample at this limit isn't big enough at the moment
[ ] Work on squeeze spots

PLO:

[ ] Don't lose Everest roll being a PLO fish
[ ] 2k hands of PLO2
[ ] Be more selective about starting hands
[ ] Finish off 'The Big Play Strategy' and read Tri Nguyen's PLO book
[ ] Stop playing pot/pot/pot whenever I flop a good hand without considering that it might not be good by the river.

[ ] Have a better month than July.

[ ] Study more.

Why would you think his range is wide? If anything, his range is very narrow here and KK/AA is exactly what I would expect. the 3 in the 50/3 gives this away.

Yes I realised that after posting and should have done at the time.
So, basically it's either a fold or call and set mine (assuming stacks) and c/f if we miss here?

Actually the 3 has almost nothing to do with his 3bet range doesn't it ?

I'd check his 3bet, but seeing as his PFR is low it's probably <1% so only AA/KK

And I guess since you open 3x and he probably makes it 9x or 10x you need to call 6-7bb to win his 90 so it's a close setmine, but I'm pretty sure you get his stack every time you hit so it's kind of close but +EV to setmine the flop but give up once you miss

I need more info. like stack sizes, positions. But, against someone that 3 bets such a small %, I would rather set mine here. He's probably going to ram his whole stack in with his AA/KK, so it's almost a sure bet your playing for stacks if you hit your set.

What can his 3bet% be if his PFR is only 3%?

anything from 0 to 3%

So it doesn't tell us anything to look at the PFR other than he's betting 3% of his hands in our sample

He didn't provide me with a 3bet% when discussing the hand. I only need to see the 3 to have a decent feel how this guy plays.

Oh I meant the range

He can actually have a higher 3bet% than he has PFR, he can have 51/3/51 IIRC

Or was it even up to 100% meaning he 3bet 3% of his range? Now you confused me I need to look it up

My point was that he's probably a nit when it comes to raising pre flop. Opening or 3betting. I think we just drop this. It's derailing the thread.

Guess not

Do you always Check PFR instead of villains 3bet stat if you want to know what he 3bets?

Just asking I thought people were looking at the 3bet stat if they want to know the 3bet range but I guess you can do that looking at the PFR

BTW do you check their 4bet stat by looking at 3bet also?

No, that's all that he provided in the hand discussion. I usually look at 3bet% from position. So I want to know how often villain 3bets from whatever position he is in. But, I have played enough to know that a 50/3 is usually going to have a low 3bet% from any position.

Yes I was just checking again

The 3bet stat is

Could3bet/Did3bet

It's possible for the 3bet stat to be 100% while the pfr stat is 3%

And I agree with you that setmining is profitable because he's probably only 3betting a very narrow range from every position

Yes, but it's not normal for someone with a very low PFR to have a high 3bet%. With the information given, I'm assuming it's low. That's it.
