OP spent too much time playing 'play money' poker and found it does not translate to playing with actual money. The ironic thing, however, is that if they went to a casino, they would probably find a number of people at cheezburger stakes playing like the numbnuts in the play money games...

I think years [emphasis added] of play money has ruined me for real money. I think how I think I should play hands is much different than how I should be playing them. For example, I cbet too much just in general in all spots and only really check when I have the nuts (because I always feel I need to win the pot right now when I have nothing and want them to fold). Also, I don't three-barrel enough, not even most value hands and especially not bluffs. I think this is because at play money you don't ever want to three barrel bluff but at real money it's a necessary tool to master. I think this is mostly why I went broke because I started messing around with three barreling, thinking how exciting it was to finally have that in my arsenal, but I wasn't picking my spots and was just firing away expecting they would fold. I got outclassed.
It is unclear from other posts whether OP has discretionary funds that could be used to play live or whether they are claiming they cannot afford it due to believing some of the bankroll management posts. If OP is gainfully employed (hopefully so given the claim in 2012 to having been a student, so they SHOULD have a degree by now), then they ought to be in a position to have a few buy-ins to go play live with from time to time. For a recreational player, there is no reason to impose some arbitrary number of buy-ins in reserve...if you have the loose funds, then you go play, not unlike the golfer who has an extra couple of hundred and decides to go play a nice course somewhere.
