Hello,

First time posting on this forum.

I just want to Ask a simple queation.

Now due to corona i started playing online poker for lets say almost a year ago...
Ive been playing a little bit from time 2 time before. But not so frequntly as now, due to covid 19...

I usally played a few times a week at the landbased casino, tornuments from 20 - 100 euro buy in range, with 80-120 players in it. At the landbased tornuments, im like even. Had a few first places some second and also a good chunk of just making it to the cash... this is just hobby...

But to be honest since i started playing online, i have just lost lost and lost... only thing i have managed is to make a 20 places for lets say 80 euros... it just seems to me that the players are to good? And im to bad? Im not using any hud and im not planning to do it either....

The question is, is the skill level and the players to good online for a landbased hobby player to make any money? The goal isnt to Get rich.. that has never been the plan on the landbased tornuments either... but just to have fun, and break even is ok for me..

Sorry for the bad english.

First of all if your only incentive is to make money is no, but I believe the answer to be more complicated then that. People play so poorly live that you can get away with tremendous leaks, and it may even be possible your a losing player just playing in absurdly soft games. With database management and help from people some glaring holes in your game will become apparent. If you want to get better at poker, I highly recommend playing online. I believe you have the wrong approach and where your going wrong.

Online is your training ground for live. Get a HUD, track your stats and other players stats and you'll get a deeper insight into the game. It will make you a better live player.

I think you should play, but you should start at the bottom. Grind $.01/.$02 cash games or $1 to $3 tourneys. Gain experience, study, post in forums, and work on your game.

Welcome to 2+2

Today's game requires a ton of homework to become competent. Are you willing to study MORE than you play?

Plus..... live poker can be a ton of fun. Online,,, not so much.

Online is way tougher than live. I don't think its an exaggeration to say that a $55-$109 online tourney is about as tough as a $1700 Main Event in the WSOPc or other regional series. With $10-$20 buy ins being like playing $400 circuit events. Your local $100 buyin live tourney is probably skill level of micro stakes MTTs, $5 or less.

You can consider online to be a training ground. Where you play tougher players at smaller stakes to prepare you for your normal live game, where you play much weaker players for relatively higher stakes. If you refuse to purchase a HUD play on GGPoker where the HUD is built into their software.

live play is much easier as it's social and casual people will play it

online is basically people who take it pretty seriously, even the really bad ones would do alright playing live

also sample size, despite thinking you've played a lot of poker live, you really haven't and it's well within expectation that you're not very good and just got really lucky - i'm not insulting you when i say this - just be aware this is true for everyone and why very few people believe themselves to bad at poker because no matter how terrible you may be, you'll still win plenty of times due to variance

Simple answer: yes, online is too hard to win money if you're just a hobby player

Most online players do at least some studying and you need to be pretty good to get to break-even or winning.

Online players play 100x better than live players.
Live players just want to play poker and get in pots, they're not there to fold all night.
Online you see more hands, can multi table, so it's a lot tighter.
Everyone being tighter pre, makes all their post mistakes less costly, so there's less money to be made.
