I played a tournament last night and am not sure if I played one hand correctly. I would like peoples opinion on it.

6 people at the table. Blinds are 1000 / 2000. Button has only about 8,000. I'm in the small blind with about 30,000. Big blind has about 25,000.

3 folds, button goes all in. I then look at my cards and see a couple of Aces. I'm obviously happy! Now do I go all in or just call, hoping the big blind tries to push me out by going all in himself (which I will obviously call), or maybe he will just call, and then I go all in on any flop.

Now with a pair of 10s, Jacks, Queens and maybe Kings I'm happy to go all in and try and isolate knowing the button has any pair, any ace or any picture cards. This, hopefully scaring off the big blind. But aces I'm not sure.

I know either option is not really a bad one, but which one is better?

Thanks!

I push. I don't like getting fancy with aces, it never works out.

Ah....honestly I probably call and hope the BB pushes with something to try to isolate the all-in stack with my dead money in there.

Shoving is a fine play also.

I think I'd call though. But then if the BB also just calls instead of shoving I'd shove most flops.

I call and if BB calls I shove the flop and hope I didn't get unlucky.

i'd say ur play depends on ur stack...
if ur stack is deep calling is fine but i'd say nething <25k i push

Move all in this is a question that shouldn't even need to be asked if someone isn't gonna push with AA preflop they shouldn't be playing.

Id call and hope to get action from BB. I hope he either shoves or calls (either Im fine with).

If he calls I shove any flop (well with the exception of AA2 or A22 since BB probably doesnt have a good hand here). In that case Id check hoping he shoves for me.

imlilc ... I don't understand that response at all. It's not a matter of him being scared to get it all in ... it is a matter of him trying to figure out the best way to get it all in.

Shove its simple why give someone else a chance to make a hand against you it's not really that hard to understand.

AA verses 2 hands yields more return than verses 1 hand and I thought we played poker to make +Ev choices ... but that's just me.

Call / push flop is probably a better line, but I hate to just call with aces in a tournament, push the flop, and have him turn over KTo for two pair.

So by your theory we should never raise with Aces because we want as many people in the pot as possible? You'd love to have a nice big family pot with Aces? I think some may disagree!

i personally call... but it depends on the players im playing... if BB is aggressive a call is a great idea... if he is passive it honestly is up to you... but again if the BB is aggressive i personally think you're costing yourself chips by pushing him out... a smooth is optimal IMO

that kid is clearly a scrub and i want him at my table... the point is to trap the BB into thinking you have a hand only good enough for a call and maybe he looks down at queens/jacks even and decides to push...... threadstarter isnt asking if Aces are good enough to push...hes asking for an opinion on getting the most value out of them

I just call here.

Look, besides the dead money, you want to take the remaining 17K or so from BB. You are OOP which is a big disadvantage but the line most people take would be call/shove, so it doesn't really matter. By shoving pre-flop I think we lose some value here from hands such as 88 to JJ which may call or fold given the opportunity.

with these stack sizes i would think calling here with AA was pretty standard. I really don't see the point in shoving.

I'd raise and hope the BB comes into a side pot with me. I wouldn't want to start the hand with a dry side pot, but I wouldn't want the BB to have good odds to call so I'd raise and hope to make two pots against two opponents, then all in on the flop.

I'd just call and hope BB calls too. Whatever he has, he is a huge dog and his call will be a mistake, because there will be 24k in the pot, and you have 17k behind.
