Advanced Poker Training - Good for getting the basics in? Advanced Poker Training - Good for getting the basics in?

https://www.advancedpokertraining.com/ (You play against the computer, you can choose which starting hands you want, no timer and all the players are marked like, TAG, LAG etc.

I'm currently reading Ryan Fee's max 6 and and was about to implement it to a micro stakes game. It didn't go well, to say the least. Most of it I didn't remember and I had to TAB it up to check what to do every other second. So, I was thinking when playing on advanced poker training, I could for every decision go back and read what would be the best decision in that particular situation. Does this sound reasonable?

EDIT; I've noticed that without paying on advancedpokertraining, my opponents will only be LAG and Loose and passive, so are there any other sites options? Also, would this be a good strategy for learning or are there any better alternatives?

Thanks in advance.

Best way to learn is to play the real games 2nl. Start playing one step at a time, be tight at first, there are enough fish around that you should be alright unless you spew off lots of money. Get a tracking software like pokertracker or HEM.

Ray Fee's book is out of date now, even he has admitted it. The game has moved on a lot; majority of books written more than 1 year ago are out of date to some extent with regards to optimal strategy and standards at any notable stakes.

I would recommend some of the newer videos but afaik most of them are mediocre. Still they would be more up to date than books.

Better discuss your game in 2+2 or subscribe to a training site or something. Books get outdated pretty fast, while on training sites there are new videos every day.

Also review your game often and post questionable hands on 2+2. This should give you a ton of info.

Don't know about that site so I can't give you any advice on that. But I think that these kind of sites getting outdated as well, since the TAG or LAG player is different nowadays from what it was 1 or 2 years ago.

Fee's book is decent for microstakes.

That said, you really shouldn't be 'learning' and then having to check a book to see what to do in specific spots. Books more convey general principles that you learn to apply by playing, not tell you what to do in certain spots (although sometimes they suggest lines, these are generally not the focal point of the book).

I was also reading Ryan's guide and although I haven't finished, I can tell you the first 16 pages are not out of date and a good starting point. As well you will want to check out Sir Cuddles guide and pay particular attention to his explanation of Fat Value. (Pure Gold and very easy to understand) Both these guides are free and are great starting points, after that save your traing money on books and watch videos that are applicable to whatever, game structure and buyin you will be playing at. You can find free videos on Utube and by searching google. If you have the budget you should join a training site, if not go with the free ones and learn and play. You want to not just watch or read, you want to study them so your thought process is almost automatic.
Good Luck

It seemed sort of decent from free stuff. I tried the paid option and was disappointed and will see about getting the refund. I can crush their simulated live $500/1000NL cash games. The strong play option bots are not all that good. Also, it came out originally in 2009 and the play in dated, particularly for tournaments. It may be helpful for beginners though.

Has anyone tried the paid option lately and what is your opinion?

If you are playing 2nl, you might as well play the play money or zynga poker as there is no difference between them!

As for the fish, 2nl-5nl are filled to the brim with fish. EVERY SINGLE PLAYER is a fish (pretty much). If you play on pokerstars i'd even suggest playing zoom at these limits as you'll increase your volume and experience yet still play vs terrible players!

Deposit $125-$200 and play 1 table of fast poker (zoom) at 5nl. Take your time with decisions and think about the finer details.

Oh yeah... and with regards to your opponents:

***Big bet= Big Hand, Small Bet= Small hand

Always assume the above and you'll be fine!

This is the only training site with AI that I have found that is Mac compatable.

I reached out to APT and they gave me a few day trial. As a limit player transitioning to NL, I found the site informative and helpful.

Background:
long time limit grinder (4-8 primary) avg 300 hrs per year playing live
I play in a small stakes .50/1 NL home game monthly (I am the fish)
Do not play on line
Seeking software that allows for coaching, bet sizing
Have strongly considered booking some coaching sessions for small stakes NL

A few questions I have regarding APT:

This site has been around for a few years. Is the software still relevant in today's 1-2, 1-3, 2-5 NL games?

Any competitors that are Mac compatable?

What option month, annual, lifetime is best for purchase?

I use APT and crank out a thousand hands here and there and I use the monthly subscription. I play live cash games and haved played up to 5/10 and honestly the computer on apt puts me in tougher spots then most people I encounter at the tables. You still have to make adjustments for the games you play locally or online but apt will help you out if you use it the right way plus if you learn any new material you can test out your new skills without loseing a dollar before training sites you had to basically get schooled at the tables could cost a lot if your a slow learner.

I've just started using the site and I quite like it. I'm not totally sure about the advisors -- they're telling me to fold in some pretty weird places, but maybe that's my inexperience. I'm using their loose aggressive pro advisor and it still feels too tight too me.

I'm not totally sure about how they figure your poker IQ. Again, I'm scoring low, but I'm not necessarily seeing the path to improvement on the site. But this is my first day with the site.

Also their replayer needs a step by step function - it sucks reviewing hands in their site - best is to convert the hand to an outside replayer and then you can work it.

There's a lot of potential on the site - I'd love better note taking functions - but it is nice to be able to play one position over and over, say working on your blind play, or playing various hands on the bubble.

Definitely going to keep using it - you can blast through 1000s of hands a day, which is nice. I'd like to practice hand reading, but that part of it I'm not sure - implies that the system AI is strong and again I'm not totally sure the brains in the back end are all that awesome...
