180 man buyin BR? 180 man buyin BR?

Hey all,

Was wondering what the min BR you should have for the 4.40 180 mans is. I've been playing a ton of cash game recently, but the past few days I've been on a horrible bad luck streak (like I'm sure everyone else has). Anyways, my roll has crashed from 280 down to around 200$, and it's just been a bad last 30-40 days or so. My question is...is $200 too small of a roll to enter 4.40s? I'd like to take shots, but at the same time, I don't want to lose another big chunk, since I don't think I'm going to redeposit any further. If it helps, I'm a pretty TAG player, so I tend to do best in longer blind, bigger stacked tourneys...my roll got up from $30 to the 200s in August because of 2.20 180 man turbos in which I used to cash in 1 of 4 or so, but recently I went on a string of 17 straight without cashing too, which sucked in addition to the roughly 40-50 or so down the tubes in cash games. Thanks for the advice!

I think with the 180 you should have at least 75 BI's. Preferably 100. Like you noticed, there'll be huge streaks of non-cashing, but if you win it once you're up like 40+ BI's(don't know exactly, haven't played them recently). Expect even much higher variance than with the cash games, basically. With your roll, i'd really advice the 2.20's if you want to play the 180's.

Frankly, at this stage I'm not sure what to play. I did well in the turbos like I mentioned, but in truth, I really don't like them since it's always either win a few flips in a row or lose out...I prefer to play the people and not the cards, which is why I like bigger stacked, slower blind structures. MTSNG's, MTT's, cash games...you name it, they haven't been going well for me recently. Maybe I should try some PLO cash games and see how I do...I'm not as good there as with NLHE, but I hear the games are fairly soft. Is 20 buyins usually the rule for cash games?

That's what I figured...what's more in the range of a $200 BR? 3.40 SNGs/MTSNGs or 5.25 HU or something? 2.20 MTTs? I'm familiar with cash game roll management, not so much for SNGs, MTTs, etc.

If you like the 180s, play the $2.20s so you've got around a hundred buy ins.

If you're any good at tournaments then 50bi is probably okay for the 4/180's. But judging by the "cashed in 1 of 4 but when 17 without cashing" comment in your OP I'd be willing to bet you aren't good at tournaments so I wouldn't try that.

If this is the only $200 you've got for poker, spend some time in the SNG strategy forum and grind the $3 SNG's for a while, then move on to bigger fields that offer higher ROI.

I'm attributing the 17 in a row streak partially to the turbo structure...I'm just not as good at push/fold. I've played 12 MTT's in the past couple months (the 2k-5k person variety) and cashed in 6 of those...small sample size, but I feel like the slower the blind increases, the better I do. I'll try grinding $SNGs and see how that does...maybe try 10 or 20 tomorrow.

Avoid PLO.

big swongz are around the corner. with 200$ I'd probably play 45-man and 180-man 2.20$ Turbo

bye
