Sure you aren't exaggerating your net worth, like say Hellmuth, who doesn't belong to a local club in his area? In Vegas it's very easy to determine who is financially successful if they golf based on this metric alone. I call BS.
Kind of like how easy it is to determine if someone is a real golfer by their choice to use the word “golf” as a verb.

Hell, I dropped about $2K+ there in four days in September, and was even UP from a bit of 1-2NL and Pai Gow.

limon, as someone who has made a living on poker income for years, and quick tax tips? I understand you aren't an accountant, but just wondered your thoughts on how to keep straight with the government while at the same time maximizing your legal avenues and deductions to keep as much as you are entitled to. Any resources (books, websites, whatever) that you used to learn how to properly handle the poker and income tax situation?

Context: Say, hypothetically, someone (let's call him "Rick") is a 2-5/1-2 NL amateur reg who plays maybe twice a week currently, in past years this handsome fellow has made a few bucks but as long as it was relatively small (a few grand) each year, this person admittedly didn't rush out to put these cash winnings on their tax return. But in recent years the profits have increased, Rick is playing more, and likely to move up to 5-10 when the game is (rarely) available locally, and wants to be sure to be on the up-and-up with Mrs. Fedz.

Thanks to the mods for clearing out all the BS.

People complain about how every thread on 2+2 turns into troll wars, if the mods would do more of this then it wouldn’t be so. This is an awesome chance to keep a rare good thread on 2+2 going, limon might be divisive for some but he’s a character, smthg poker could use more of these days and he is an actual poker legend, it’s fun that he’s doing this.

In my experience as a mod on a MMA forum for 15 years running, nine times out of ten the mods have no idea a thread is getting blown up with trolls and flame wars, because people complain about the mods in the thread but don't report any posts, so the mods get no notification.

Mr. song (no choice no choice no choice) was a legend who defined the term "inelastic calling range" at one point in his life. if he was going to call he would call for 1/2 pot or 2x pot, sometimes more. He could do an insane amount of pushups even when he was really old. He beat a younger MMA wannabe type guy on a pushup contest/bet in like 2018. He never came back after covid, hope hes ok.

I still see greek steve sometimes just uber nitting micro stakes. maybe not in a year or two, time flies.

Cool thread and a really nice read! A few questions from me:

1. How does the standard golf-betting match go down? Is it standard stroke play over 18 holes? Match play? Set $ numer/hole?

2. What is the strongest/weakest part of your golf game?

3. What are your practice/actual course play ratio in golf?

4. Is ”being in the zone” a real thing? Poker/golf or whatever. Or is this only variance playing mind tricks?

1. all of the above. there are types of bets that are better for the guy getting strokes and types that are better for the guy giving stokes. there are courses that are better for some, the way the handicap holes come up in the round matters a lot because of presses. in general most big matches are some sort of team v team match because its very hard to hide your advantages for long heads up.

2. driving/putting. 20 years ago it was the opposite!

3. i practice almost every day, its basically my exercise routing. i play maybe 3 times a week maximum. thats all my bad back can handle

4. Id guess variance playing mind tricks for the most part but some of those mind tricks are likely self fulfilling prophesies because they make you more calm and confident which helps you play better for a little while. A person can absolutely play worse if they are nervous or upset so the opposite has to be true to some extent. that said you could just mathematically map a players likely hood to hit 30 great shots in a row and know exactly how often it would happen but the person it was happening to would think they were "in the zone" when it was just a streak happening that was guaranteed to happen sooner or later mathematically. when a person who always bets black on roulette hits 9 straight blacks are they "in the zone"? (they think they are)

Let's say you walk into a random poker room and see 100 people playing 1/3. What percent of them do you think could beat 2/5 in a year if they had hours of high quality coaching a day? Are some people just beyond help?

prob almost all of them could, maybe 10% of them would. the vast vast majority of people DONT GAMBLE TO WIN!!!! its fulfilling some other psychological need. in fact there is a significant % that NEED TO LOSE! and this includes some very good big winning poker players that are always broke.

(i learned this when i used to do coaching before i realized it was a massive waste of time and most people were just paying to have a "known" poker friend who had to listen to them whine. thats not my deal.)

No one is jealous of you or your life Abe. You're extremely insecure and it's evident. You come off as a really sad pathetic loser in this thread. That's most people's perception of you.

You're loud and obnoxious in real life too. I can hear you being obnoxious and laughing at your own joke clear across the Commerce.

A little known fact about "legends of poker", we all have basically the same origination story, we all played way to big to start (we didn't know any better) we all nearly instantly went on a massive heater. we all were smart enough to know we had gotten very lucky and bared down even harder to reverse engineer a poker game and become much much better. Poker burnouts run hot and think thy are good and smart. they throw it all back.
Real wisdom right there. Awesome thread, limon, thank you!

I’ve spent a lot of time perfecting steak dinners so i guess they’re my favorite.

Not a big desert guy. Artisan Fruit pie with vanilla bean ice cream always nice.

Have you played PLO or PLO5 anywhere on the east coast?

Have you ever traveled to play PLO or do you prefer to just stick to home field advantage?

Do you have any thoughts on what NYC poker will be like if and when it happens?

Let the man do his thread. This is a forum for pro poker players and he’s made millions consistently and is sharing knowledge on how to and giving in depth answers to questions. If you don’t like his style then just dont open the thread.

Depends on what they like I suppose. La Azteca, bestia, quarter sheets, Dan tanas, bavel, Q, howlin rays, jitlada, murugame monzo, in n out, osteria mozza etc. from super cheap to super expensive the list is endless. Los Angeles best food city in the world and it’s not close.
