3. How old are you? Most men, even the most egotistical of us realize that at some point it’s worth trying for a family, or at least a partner to share things with. But maybe you’re the exception?

4. I don’t want this to land the wrong way, but it seems that you are both very proud of your accomplishments in poker but really quick to talk **** about it. Usually when people talk so negatively about their job they harbor resentment towards it. Is there a chance that you are resentful that you never were truly elite at any game? Or mad that you (maybe - or perhaps just didn’t care to) didn’t have what it takes to get to the top? It’s not like all poker is taking easy money from degenerates, you could choose to play against equally smart and talented players online at high stakes, or go try to play in Bobby’s room etc etc. did you ever want to push yourself and go that route?

5. Your work on Twitter is hugely admirable, I am impressed with how much time you put into going after the conservatives trying to ruin our country/democracy. Ever think about trying to go into politics? Or think about any type of second career/passion project?

6. Do you do any exercise or have any hobbies/activities other than poker and golf?

7. Are you friends with any other Commerce regs away from the tables?
1. wan lee was the wildest. He once told me, after i felted him, "i want you to get hit by a bus, but not die just get paralyzed, so when you wheel yourself back in here i can laugh in your face". I actually found him quite charming.

Matt Winnick pretty legendary as well. He felted a "pro" kid with a fishy call/suckout (standard) and the kid was berating him as he left table with no money. matt had one of those small corn cobs on a stick with his lunch. he told the kid he would give him all his money back ($6k) if they could go in the bathroom and he could stick the tiny corn cob up his ass. th kid was definitely thinking about it!!! Matt also used to play with his pediatrician who delivered him (bob landau) and would try to make bob tell everyone he had a big dick as a baby.

2. you'd need a prohibition lifted (even legalizing sportsbetting would help) but it would be short lived wherever it happens. the number of pros that can come in from around the world, the rising rake and the general increase in level of play from fish make PUBLIC poker a dead end no matter what.

3. 52. wife dog more than enough

4. I came to poker from card counting and booking, i never had any interest in being some top pro, that required winning tournaments (which i wouldn't play), all "top pros" were (and still are for the most part) judged by tournament wins, IN RETROSPECT I SHOULD HAVE PLAYED THESE TOURNAMENTS!!! I wanted as much cash as possible, for a while the meant trying to become an "elite" poker player but i figured out pretty quickly the real money was not being an elite gambler but an elite purveyor of gambling. then i moved quickly to wanting all passive income (rentals, etc) poker isn't my job and i dont speak negatively about it. i tell what is truly going on. nearly all "elite" players are doing now what i did then, running games live and online, running streams, owning pieces of card rooms live and online etc. its the opposite of not being elite, i teach myopic card players how to be elite at life.

5. i am unelectable. lololol. i get some good bets out of attacking lying scum. just so happens they are nearly all right wing. if you say, "biden is a criminal" or "trump is innocent" or "trump will be next president" or "election was stole" or "vaccines kill millions" or "covid was a hoax" or "america has open borders" or any of this right wing bullshit you are going to be challenged with a large escrowed bet. you can then put up or shut up!!!!

I think whales and “rich successful degens” still would like the idea of going to a casino to play. The competitive aspect of it is a huge draw; can’t imagine that you would get the same from playing in a lineup where you hand pick who you play.
for the last couple years commerce 20/40nl has been a semi-private game, all 9 seats are locked to start the game in the morning. if you got a seat in that game later in the evening you got a curated lineup of the smartest pros in LA who got those seats because the are "sports".

its unlikely, streams dont make BIG money for themselves or the casino. its why bike junked their stream (after i sold my stake!), bellagio and others did as well. a million you tube views is worth $5000! poker is tiny, people think OMG A MILLIOOON VIEWS IN A MONTH! its worth cheeseburger money. You make the real money running private games live and online and booking off of the people you meet on/with the stream. You can also get a decent cut of the rake the casino makes while the streamed table is running but after the cameras turn off everyone leaves. Streams bring in small stakes players. I have been out of the stream game for many years though, could be slightly different now. The idea is to make the stream more like a party and as little abou t"technical" poker as possible, it needs to be a community/destination thing (like the WSOP). thats what i was doing at bike and hustler has done a good job of it as well.

What kind of things do you book people for? Sports lines are usually pretty tight and there's free sites that any idiot can see the best lines on the market.

in 1998? lol. also gamblers who go to bookies dont care about the best line, they care about betting on credit and personal service/relationships. one guy would bet all LA home teams every week. i would give him horrible lines and he would complain, i would say, "just just bet the other side then". he never would.

Thanks for the answers. Didn’t know you had a wife and a dog, thought you were flying solo. I’m happy for you that you have a family. I think it’s important to have one, poker/being surrounded by poker players can be pretty isolating and shitty

The Winnick story is hilarious

I just deleted a bunch of "political" posts.

Let's keep this thread (and NVG) free from political postings.

There are many places on the internet to discuss politics including 2+2's Politics and Society forum. This thread is not one of those places.

There was an LATB episode you commentated with Nichoel in which just introducing the players I could rewatch repeatedly and laugh each time.

Among the great light hearted takes you vocalize (such as comparing a player to a cartoon dog), one player in particular grabs your attention. He proceeds to use a red vine as a straw for his drink, and that’s all you can focus on while Nichoel tries to call the action.

The player then drops the red vine into the drink and has to fish it out. You are losing your mind. Moments later he loses the red vine straw again, and hilarity continues.

Just, thank you…for that type of fun and all the insights that you’ve shared with so many. Even when they weren’t received well.

I guess my ? Is not for you, but can anyone find that clip?! I’ve searched for it to no avail.

I will say when I played it in January/February this year it was quite easy to get a seat in that game any time i wanted.

I do commentary like i play, paying attention to small stuff to keep me entertained, bust balls and stay actively involved in the game and not on autopilot.i felt like the players needed to be characters to keep people interested, before me no one really introduced the players in detail, everyone at LATB was like, what is he doing spending all this time talking about each person?? i did my commentary nearly "live" so i could tell the cameraman what to focus on and there was a sense of urgency. shows now are taped/massive delayed and the commentary is done over the tape. its dead and dull. the actual shows are much bigger stakes though and people like that.

I have no clue but my educated guess would be $30 an hour. Many of them seem to be backed and if you’re chopping or getting salary+bonus from your backer that needs to be at least $15 an hour I’d think, leaving $15 for the backer.
