Is it time to buy Zynga? Is it time to buy Zynga?

I took a look at Zynga's Q4 2014 slides. Apparently in this quarter, they spent 105M on R&D, 42M on sales and marketing, 39M on "General and Administrative". This is all excluding stock-based compensation.

That seems like a lot for a company of this size. 1000 engineers at a generous 200k a year is only 67M per quarter.

What am I missing?

you're not missing anything; the company's expenses are far too high, mostly because they have failed to significantly reduce head count as revenue has plummeted.

they're chasing a new, hit game, and have failed to date. a bet on znga is a bet that they find one. it is definitely possible! but unlikely imho.

Zynga Plans to Cut 18% of Workforce.

The company reported a 9.1% increase in its first-quarter revenue and a narrower loss, both better than what Wall Street expected. It also forecast a second quarter slightly stronger than analysts’ projections.

In an interview, Mr. Pincus said Zynga was trying to do too much. He plans to focus on a few popular areas like casino games. One casualty is sports, a category Zynga entered less than a year ago with a new studio in Orlando, Fla. That studio is closing, stopping development of a Tiger Woods golf game and putting a countdown clock on an NFL game.

Also, the CC mentioned NaturalMotion to release CSR 2 "later this year."

ZNGA down to 1.81 today, as they continue to lose money and dilute the stock.

Amazingly it still trades at approximately 2x liquidation value, which seems like a huge premium for a company that is collapsing.

New CEO

http://www.streetinsider.com/Hot+Mgm.../11377822.html

Gibeau, 47, spent more than two decades at Electronic Arts Inc., where he held a number of influential business and product leadership roles. Most recently he served as the Executive Vice President of EA Mobile from October 2013 to May 2015, where he led strategy, product development and publishing for the company’s fast-growing mobile games business. In that role, Gibeau managed EA’s portfolio of mobile franchises including The Simpsons: Tapped Out, Plants vs. Zombies, Real Racing, Bejeweled, Star Wars, Minions, SimCity, EA SPORTS, and The Sims.

Prior to that, Gibeau was President of EA Labels from 2011 to 2013, where he oversaw IP development, worldwide product management and marketing for major console and PC properties including Battlefield, FIFA, Madden NFL, Need for Speed, SimCity, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Mass Effect, Dragon Age and The Sims. He also spent four years as the President of the EA Games Label, where he was responsible for a business turnaround that resulted in increased product quality, on time game delivery and dramatically reduced costs. Before that, Gibeau was EA’s Executive Vice President and General Manager of The Americas, where he was directly responsible for a publishing operation that accounted for more than $1.5 billion of EA’s annual revenue.

Gibeau said he has dealt with the humility of having to do long turnarounds.

“I have been a hero, a zero, and a hero again at EA,” he said. “I have insights on how to navigate these waters.”

“I have a good handle on what is strong and what we need to improve. I spent seven months getting to know the organization,” Gibeau said. “We’ll make some changes. I am very excited. When you think about the turnaround, it comes down to the 10 products we have talked about that are coming. It’s a new release slate. We want to engineer hits, and make sure all aspects of a product’s team can make it a hit product. The question is how do we nail these 10 releases. There is nothing more rewarding than pulling off a successful turnaround.”

This does look extremely promising, though my understanding is fuzzy when it comes to their line of progress in online gambling.

They haven't talked about online gambling in a while and I wouldn't expect anything soon. Although if the stars align right and enough States jump on board that would help build the momentum to finally seeing Zynga Poker played for real money.

There's something else though.. I think wallstreet wants this stock to break loose. Its been waiting for that to happen for some time now. A bit of confidence and the right news is gonna light this thing up.

Glu mobile (GLUU) has jumped a couple times now from $2's to $7's back to $2's and back to $5's..and now back down again. You gotta hit Zynga at the right times but the risk on this one is worth it in my opinion.

And..if online gambling ever gets mentioned..look out!

Thank a lot for the info! I'm new to investing and I've more or less researched Zynga to the best of my ability now. Would be slightly unhappy to buy it at its year high even though it looks good long term, so I'll get to know the company and all their services a bit more closely in the mean time.

CSR Racing 2 and its ‘beyond console’ graphics launch on iOS and Android

The mobile and social gaming company released CSR Racing 2 today for iOS and Android.

The first has more than 190 million downloads — over 2 percent of the world’s population have played it.

..gave GamesBeat a demo of CRS Racing 2 on an iPad Pro, showing off what he calls “beyond console” graphics at resolutions beyond what the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One can duplicate at this point.

This post picked nearly the very bottom. One of the best performing non microcap stocks of the year from this post.

It's amazing it took them so long to get this game finished (my bullishness at $2.59 a bit more than year ago was based on the upcoming release schedule of this + DOT), but it looks like the wait is paying off in terms of game quality. CSR 2 is an across the board hit it seems. Not sure what's happening with DoT. They claim it'll be out in the second half of this year for wide release -it's been in soft launch for a long time - any news/opinions on this one? Chance of a hit once they go wide release?
