how does something so stupid get financed?

I was/am gonna post this in BBV for fun, but then really got to thinking... who produces these things, pays for advertisements... the whole shabang... seems like a horrible worthless idea... and i'm in their small target market

If someone came up to you 40 years ago and suggested to you that you should start a company where you would sell rocks to people as cute little pets, you probably (as most people) would have said you are out of your F'ing mind, who the hell would buy a pet rock? People did, and those that made them, made a fortune.

Now, this isn't a pet rock. This isn't a blockbuster product. Someone may have sold this idea to backers, or may not have. But so what. Someone will buy this. Who cares. People will buy all kinds of weird ****. You know those spams you get for the most whacked out products. The reason you get spam, is because those things sell and people are buying them.

I'm not getting why this item was singled out by the OP from all the poker-related products that exist. At least this product is attempting to improve the poker playing experience, unlike poker clothing and stupid **** like that.
