I think posting here is good though I'm not sure about SMP. I'd venture to guess that the forum (given the mathematical/philosophical bent) is more for abstract thinkers than applied statisticians (who I believe are more likely to reside here :-) ).

Let me know if you guys have any interest (it is amazing. Honestly we go through thousands upon thousands of resumes and like the ONLY people who work out at our firm are those who we recruit off of this specific message board). So we are looking for a few new quantitative analysts, who, if we get the right group, will be rotating through research design, quantitative analysis (general/easy), coding (harder stuff + sims), and backtesting.

Job Description

We are a mathematical, statistical, and strategic consulting firm in search of at-home contractors to work within our Quantitative Research Division.
This quantitative analyst position would entail primarily working on projects in our dissertation consulting, academic journal article assistance, business projects, and coding divisions:
• Statistical and econometric analysis
• Fixing up content consistency, flow, logical reasoning, etc for dissertations or academic journal articles of our clients
• Planning quantitative methodologies for research studies (doctoral dissertations, mostly)
• Quantitative coding (if you know Matlab, C+, or equivalent) for backtesting of trading strategies
• Performing some of the introductory analysis and coding for our business consulting projects. You could work your way over time almost fully into our business consulting division, working on projects (with similar quantitative analysis needs) for our large corporate clients.

The job would begin with an intensive 3 month training program for all new analysts, during which time you'd learn A TON about doing independent research, logical reasoning, statistics, mathematics, etc. You’d be learning virtually every quantitative methodology under the sun, every statistical method (SEM, MC Monte Carlo, etc), and all of our standard practices.

*Qualifications:

We are looking for a few incredibly hard-working and astoundingly brilliant individuals to join our team. Hours for an analyst at the firm can be intense, so the candidate should be prepared for long hours and be able to conduct independent research (especially with respect to coding if you are interested in that aspect of the role. Not all quantitative analysts need be exceptional coders). The candidate should be a mathematician and researcher, first and foremost. Comfort with statistics is essential. An excellent grasp of econometrics, mathematics, computer science, great communication skills, positive attitude, around-the-clock and IMMEDIATE availability, immaculate attention to detail, high tolerance for long hours and tedious work, and a diligent work ethic are all necessary to apply for this job.
If you have the qualifications we need, please send your resume to set up a timed sample project to show us your ability to work under a time constraint.

Thanks!
Barron

Ah, ya, just saw that.

Hmm... this is the kind of training I'd love to get. I'm probably not completely qualified though, as my programming skills are very beginner.

Barron - are there any training programs like this for someone like myself that works part time but wouldn't mind volunteering some free hours on the side?

This looks very interesting. What kind of educational background are you looking for? What would be a typical project?
