As investors, if we see a balance sheet that has a high % of assets allocated in goodwill is it sufficient just putting that in the bear column for the stock or do we need to specifically research the performance of the acquisitions? If it's not written down annually, yet not turning into a tangible asset how do we judge it's legitmacy?

LKQX is a company I loved but left off my watch list due to it's goodwill being higher than it's current assets. It felt too dangerous to me.
any company that has done an acquisition will have goodwill (or 99.99%).

as for legitimacy... i don't think u can find ur answer on the balance sheet anywhere. u have to look at the other two statements for that (most of the time).

as an example, look at GILD which just did a major acquisition at a stocks peak price w/ a gigantic premium which does nothing for them next year, yet GILD has performed well after. you won't find any value in all three statements from this acquisition for the next year however people putting money into this stock aren't stupid. People expect this acquisition to generate lots of money for them a few years out from now.

in a time like 2008 people like to look at tangible book value which takes out goodwill

tks Tasty Chicken.

Some of my favorite stocks starting to free fall. Hoping for a bad week next week. Could set up some nice opportunities for CELG, BIIB, TITN.

Also since I pimped Deck so much in this thread, just wanted to give warning that here is not a good entry. Double top starting to form. Low selling volume is a good sign, but still bad euro news could push this thing to 81 or even 77 if sell off was really bad.

Stock could still bounce next week, but just in case I wouldn't want anybody losing money reading my posts.

Now that the Real estate market is starting to stabilize. What do you think of BOWFF and CRXIF? Canadian Dollar is strengthening while US dollar inflates. These are all Canadian Properties.

R/E in Canada and REITs in Canada are both very over valued...

BIIB looks very good, CELG looks OK and TITN wait a little longer IMO. This is 100% technical based. I primarily look at technicals and use fundamentals for confirmation FYI.

CELG, actually might need to wait another few days but keep a close eye on it.

Tks CKY. Agree Celg needs more time. I'm looking for a bounce off the 50. Titn a bounce off the 20 and Biib well have too see how market plays out this morning. I can only afford two of them. I'd prefer the pharmas, but we'll see.

More bad news from Deck today. Got a downgrade from Piper Jaffery stating rising production costs. Not sure why this isn't already priced in to the stock as rising production costs was stated my management during the last conference call.

REGN up 12% to 115 today.

I'd would really like someone who does analysis to comment.

By any measure of value the stock is expensive. It's currently valued at ~20x revenue, which is ridiculous. Since the company has been burning mountains of cash since forever, none of the other valuation metrics are applicable.

That being said, it does look like it has a compelling growth story. You are the doctor so you are probably a better judge of the growth story than any analyst you will find on here. I think the wise old stock market players will tell you that a company like REGN gets the vicious smackdown the second there is a hiccup in the growth story. I would take my profits now and be happy. Wait for another opportunity to get back in when the price tanks.

So what are people shorting these days? I'm having some trouble finding some good short candidates in this bull market to hedge my long positions.

Just got stopped out of my XCO short for about 8% profit. HNT still has some legs, IMO.

It's my favorite stock, but the DECK chart is pretty ugly right now.

Anyone have any thoughts on the SQQQ? Seems like the QQQ has had a good run and is due for a correction.

Out 119.95 for a small profit. BIIB holding up nicely, but I'm worried about general market. Vix is back up, TLT is going up, and FXE is down. I have had a lousy feel for this market since I started though.

Down 8% in Deck total today. I'm considered unloading it as my risk on this earnings report is growing by the day. (8% is my usual max stop loss). I don't see it going less than 75 though and I now love the upside so I'm going to endure the pain. I did buy it early knowing this was a possibility, I feel like I should follow through with my plan.

So far ytd gains in AAPL, TITN (3 seperate trades), and BIIB (twice) and one ugly loss (a wprt short). We'll see where DECK takes me.

Also rolled the dice on ZNGA in @ 13.5 this morning, looking good so far.

Dumped ZNGA in the after hours at 14 for a small gain. Got scary for a minute there, fell to 12.90 after earnings.

Deck formed a hammer today. Bullish sentiment in the near term. You'll likely see more favorable prices in the near term to reduce your position.

AAPL goes to $500 and all anyone can talk about is how long until its worth a trillion dollars. I realize the US$ is pretty much worthless, but g-damn AAPL makes trinkets FFS.

Anytime analysts are arguing over "not if but when a stock gets to some ridiculous valuation" you know the writing is on the wall.

My guess is AAPL splits 10:1 down to $50, dumb sheep retail investors will be like ZOMG CHEAP, and pile in pushing it to $75 (LOL $700billion valuations) then the final descent will be upon us.

I dont and wont own a single AAPL product, and consider todays $510 / share valuation to be nothing short of hilarious.

I deal with people everyday who are basically financially ******ed, these people couldnt tell you the difference between a stock and a preferred, but damnit they know AAPL is a solid buy.

Matter of time before AAPL bursts.
