I cant really see the melted plastic that well in the pictures, but maybe someone could remove it with a dremel and a very small burr tip. You'll need to clean the pins too, otherwise you won't get a good connection and they will heat up again.

Also cash back for the free corn and mash potatoes yo!
Sounds like a huge hassle, all I know is that my 700 dollar dinner took a millisecond to verify using Bitcoin and I was on my way

Not every place out there has the time to fix every problem on the spot as they happen, BTC is just another means of payment and is a pretty convenient way to do so, the store also benefits on the less fees they pay,

I know the BBQ joint doesn't let you tip with bitcoin. So last time I paid in bitcoin and tipped in cash.

Servers definitely prefer cash tips over debit/credit, so if this is the standard procedure for restaurants that take btc, servers should definitely be promoting payment via bitcoin.

This last time part of me felt like the server wasn't interested in the hassle of bitcoin, and that in fact that machine may have worked but she didn't want to use it, or know how to use it. When she said it had been finicky lately I just opted to pay with cc rather than press the issue.

I asked several times before I was seated which could have avoided the sudden surprise , not everyone knows how to use or know what BTC even is for that matter so it would depend on the server whether or not they want to be tipped in BTC

I'm guessing they use the coinkite terminal but the bitpay app on a tablet is probably a lot easier and most people could pick it up and use it

I also tipped in cash, BTC is still so very new obviously there are probably going to be some issues its just amazing that I got to pay with it when 3-4 years ago when I first found it all you could do was invest for speculation, buy drugs, and alpaca socks

Any advice at all would be much appreciated
Im not into mining but from what I can see windows and prompt errors are USB related. There was supposed to be just first solution but since you have AVG installed I have to ask the rest of the questions too.

1. In case You havent tried it yet, just unplug from USB port and plug into USB port again, it should load correct drivers. If not working, first time, dont bother inserting again and just leave them plugged in and restart your computer. Wait for a while to load completely, if You have a lot of things on AUTOSTART wait longer. It should work now. If not, try again to unplug and plug into USB. Try changing to port which you know works, one that your mouse uses or keyboard. It could be that just one pair of USB ports is not working.

2. Go to Microsoft Security Essentials website and download MSE. AVG is complete junk when it comes to security or simplicity. Lots of bells and whistles but no substance. To cut it short, it is just bad. Use windows firewall if its Internet security version of AVG. But it will most likely be very hard to successfully perform full uninstall of that piece of s..t called AVG. At least it was last time I gave it a chance.

3. With AVG installation in mind, I have to ask You to look into your update history and perform update of your operating sytem because there is more than one update related to USB compatibility and performance issues. Specifically driver related errors in certain situations.

On the other hand, nothing is error free, including the USB drivers so this could just be driver crash which will be resolved with 1. solution. Hope this helps.

the hashrate doubles almost every ~2 months.

the next adjustment is in 3 days. next one will be around the time you have the miner in the mail. ROI will probably be positive but not by much (if you can start soon)

Quick question for us gamblers to make sure I'm not completely off base here, I'm thinking about trying to borrow a a few hundred LTC and pay back that amount of LTC + 20% in a years time. Plan is to sell them for BTC, then sit on the BTC. 1 year later sell the BTC and give back LTC. Good bet? Probably wont be able to do it but think there's enough irrational people out there to try it.

Let's take a look at some real projections:

If you get your S3 right away on the first day of the next difficulty increase (July 12th), you will make approximately .01349 BTC per day at 478GH/s. If we assume a 12.5 day cycle we will make 0.168625 BTC for the next round. Now assuming a running increase of 15% per round at 12.5 days per round we can gather the following information:

Round 1 July 12th - July 24 0.168625 BTC
Round 2 July 25th - Aug 7th 0.147 BTC
Round 3 Aug 8th - Aug 30th 0.12495 BTC
Round 4 Aug 31st - Sep 12th 0.1062075 BTC
Round 5 Sep 13th - Sep 25th 0.0902763 BTC
Round 6 Sep 26th - Oct 9th 0.0767349 BTC

Now if you add all those rounds up you would end up with approximately 0.71 BTC, or close to your initial investment of 0.75 BTC. So if you get free electricity, the S3 may turn you a profit. But once you factor in the electricity costs, the picture isn't so pretty. The unit will consume 370 watts and at even .11kwh (national average) you will end up paying nearly $100 just in electricity costs. Add to that the cost to cool, which depending on your situation could add an additional $50 in A/C costs.

At current BTC rates that means your electricity costs will shave off 0.25 BTC... Which means your 0.71 BTC is cut down to 0.46 BTC, well below your initial investment of 0.75. And keep in mind, that these calculations are based on a very convervative estimate of 15% difficulty increases per round. It also assumes you get your miner up and running on July 12th. Every day that goes by during the first round will cost you dearly.

I already have a bet on Germany and don't feel like hedging, but currently betting Germany won't win the world cup at: http://bitbet.us/bet/993/germany-wins-world-cup/ pays 3.8:1

Make sure you read the rules and understand their weight system. If you get a heavy bet in on No right now, it should alter the weight big time.

I emailed them about their beta program but don't really see the point. They don't offer any benefits.

20% might be a bit high, but definitely a bet I'd take.

So you'd be shorting litecoin at its current state? I own a decent amount of litecoin along with bitcoin and was considering going all in on litecoin with the ratio being as low as it is.

Not sure how shorting litecoin right now and having a contract for a year could be a good bet.

Truthfully if you want to go all in, go doge.

The community is amazing and they get awesome press. Litecoin right now is like dealing in pennies wrt to bitcoin, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

All altcoins suck and are bound to fall. I think there's a reason they are all falling. The only alts I'd consider investing in are 2.0 type coins/platforms

Most alts are falling because majority of people are expecting a runup in the price of bitcoin relatively soon. A lot of big things are on the horizon for bitcoin, which is driving the prices of alt coins down. I expect litecoin to be back to the .025-.030 range before the end of the year, and possible much much higher depending on some big news.

What is the point of any alt? I see no reason for growth of any alt at present.

Alts are all pump and dump and none of them can have much longevity.

Shorting over 1 year, pretty sure the gap between LTC/BTC will just grow by more than 20%. I can't really see any instance where LTC grows significantly but BTC doesn't.

I think it is dumb to bet ealy on a game where other people can bet at least until half time.

ATM you can get 2.62 on Argentina here (compared to 2.25 on bet365)
