I suggest the children of Israel replace the Shekel with bitcoin. Only then shall you know peace. The first shall be the first.

You used comic juxtaposition in an almost perfect way. This was one of the all-time classic NOT jokes. Let's get one thing straight: all "NOT" jokes are funny, almost by definition. They just are, it's a fact, we all know that.

But you my friend, you really nailed it. Seldom does a NOT joke have the ineffable quality that yours did. It was, in a word, great. And that's why I said "great NOT joke".
Could have been worst. Could have used "said no one ever" instead.

one thing seems sure. when the dust settles, the chart will have arced up then come down a lot, and many tears will have been shed. no clue what price the peak will be nor what price it will settle at, but that much seems certain.

I am crazy to expect a huge crash on April 21st?
4/20 is a notorious day for famous bitcoin merchants.

Litecoin was worth about 80 cents on the 1st. It's now worth $4.40.

$3 fee (for purchases $100-$250), quick and easy, they gave me the Gox weighted average for my coins.

This is a pretty great service, you just copy and paste the URL of an item you want to buy, and then ship them the coins after they create the invoice.

Western Union news swirling about Bitcoin support. Would be a great play for them and a potentially huge development for users.

All: Don't be distracted by non-BTC virtual currencies at this point. The last traded price of BTC represents orders of magnitude more volume and depth. The non-BTC chains are mostly vulnerable to exploits already fixed in Bitcoin, which has superior development.

I'm 10,320 in line for Mtgox verification. What are estimates for how many coins the original guys have? It looks like their daily volume is over 70,000 BTC which comes out to a bit over $7 million a day. This seems like peanuts for a currency trading platform. Wonder what happens when someone decides to cash in.

Interesting article in the main stream business media. I presume that this will drive demand in the short term.

Shuffle: Keep your posts relevant or go back to posting about how AAPL and the S&P are going to crash 75% this year.

Bitcoin trades make a tiny blip on the radar of global currency, but it's still fascinating technologically speaking and speculatively speaking.

Need to watch forum reports mostly. If you really need to know you can create a (fake) account and request verification to see what your place would be. Last I saw today was over 10,000.

That's surprisingly a very good article.

I also like the quote near the end - "Bitcoin isn’t tied to any commodity—besides trust." The mainstream media loves to bash this currency because its not backed by anything but a currency doesn't have to be backed by something tangible to have value or be sustainable.

They should say that in every economic article ever.

The dollar isn't tied to any commodity - besides trust.

If by trust do you mean a huge ass technologically advanced military with a 1000 bases dotting the globe?

All that power does not anchor the dollar to any particular value versus any other commodity, good, or service. Nor does bitcoin have such an anchor.

The "trust" associated with the dollar is the trust that the people in control of it won't create too much of it too fast.

Bitcoin's trust is based on the fact that the laws of mathematics and physics will prevent breaking of the encryption scheme within any reasonable time frame.

I think just saying based on "trust" is overly simplistic, why is the US dollar trusted more than the singapore dollar or the brazilian real? Because we have more trust that the technocrats that control the US dollar wont create too much vs the technocrats that control the singapore dollar or the brazilian real?
