Hi, im a stars midstakes tourney reg, decent winner, trying to transition over to CG,
in the process of getting coached mentored by a good high stakes cash player

only thing is that we havent figured out what would be a fair % of profits and for what period of time after coaching stops

can anyone that has done a deal like this before maybe give us some numbers?

"They" get a lot of request but it's usually always a terrible deal for the coach.

The coach bears all sorts of risks while having trouble even if things go right.

A fair deal (which could mean 80-20 in favor of the coach), is terrible because humans hate 80-20 deals. It feels "unfair".
In addition to that, the coach bears the risk that your grandma has birthday to often or your girlfriends cat dies and other drama that could appear in your life.

In other words, your motivation goes down (which happens the majority of the time) and the coach gains nothing.

In addition to that, in case you make lets say 100k, many people will have second thoughts, if the coach really "deserves" his 80k cut.

In any case, call me stupid, but i've done this before (for fun & pleasure with friends) and i'm currently doing it to show that i'm the best coach. Just keep in mind, i haven't done it for the money. I admit its pure passion and some ego. I did get paid, but not anywhere close to a reasonable hourly.

No other coach will ever dare to make this public and show the exact process, because they simply can't. I believe in myself and in the guy i'm coaching. BRAGGGGGG. But that's just how it is.

I still don't expect to make anywhere close to my hourly that i charge for coaching, but this work is very fulfilling and i have done a LOT of homework and tested this guy so hard.
Also it's an ego thing, kinda showing all haters and smartasses that anybody can make it.

In case you're interested: ("ImaChampion" on 2p2).

Hope this helps. So my best advice for you is to get a good player who somehow wants to prove himself or who just happens to like you. Because - no offense - i don't believe its profitable for them.

So what i mean is, don't try to convince them that you're gonna make them a lot of money.

Husker is right, people do these all the time.

I think TiT is also right, these can often lead to the coach getting nothing in return, with very few stories of big upside.

It's more successful when mid stakes pros get coached by high stakes pros, since a mid stakes pro will have a history of success/proof of hard work, something a random low stakes player (or any random player) doesn't often have.
