Advice on when to look into getting a coach? Advice on when to look into getting a coach?

Hi, am just looking for advice really from anyone really about when getting a coach is optimal. I mean, money isn't really an issue as I have no problems withdrawing it from my roll to invest in my game, I've got the FT bonus coming up which I'm prepared to spend all on a a bulk set of sessions, plus the the 150% Absolute bonus too, which I'm also prepared to invest in my game.

I started playing in February and withdrew quite a bit, before starting again in May at 2NL. I'm now a 25NL 6max'r (250k hands life since I started in Feb) looking to make the jump to 50NL as soon as possible, but I feel like I have a lot of leaks in my game still obviously and I definitely feel the more aggressive game at 50NL will eat me alive, I'm not confident about moving up there at all.

I've been looking quite hard around the scene and doing a lot of ground work on the coaches I like the look and sound of so I definitely have a few names I may approach sooner rather than later, but what's everyone's opinion on my line, I've got membership at DC, Stox and CR (nerly Stox and CR anyway, will have by the end of the month..), should I knuckle down and give 50NL a solid try on my own before turning to coaching, or would having a coach to aid me moving up be better?

Thanks for any advice, I'm not too sure if coaching is for me yet seeing as there's probably tons I have to learn from all the videos I have yet to watch, so would appreciate any input from coaches or anyone who was in a similar situation to me at some stage.

Elliott.

I would ditch the trio membership. Waste of money. All you need is one.

IMO, the earlier you get a coach the better. I would think that the optimal way to do this would be to do a monthly session+review where the coach can watch you play and plug your leaks and give you things to think about and work on - instead of doing a lot of sessions at once.

Make sure your coach is a solid winner at that limit or one above it - and that game type (6max/HU/FR). Lots of 'coaches' out there have mediocre results but their board whoring makes them seem somehow authoritative or they grind a million hands at very weak winrates.

I've been playing 1KNL for a while and looking for coaching as well and it's hard to find a good fit/value. I do think monthly or bi-monthly review/update/tips is the way to go...

i don't tend to recommend that someone get a coach if their bankroll is gonna take a big hit in paying the coach for a few hours' work

I brought DC for one month, and downloaded every NLHE and PLO series to disk, and I'll have free Stox and CR through TruelyFree, so in essence I'm not really paying a dime. Thanks for the rest of the advice, I'm not sure what to expect from a coach, I read the coaching guide not long ago and will have to give it a reread, but I'll be sure to speak to a few about a plan before I commit to anything.

@ BBB - I'm fully rolled and beating 25NL, but I'd rather be in the knowledge that I won all my money to become rolled for 50NL, rather than collecting a bonus and then taking shots when I'm clearly not ready, if you catch my drift. So if my roll is $750, and I clear a bonus and at the end have $1350, I'd rather take the $600 out and grind the rest out at 25NL until I have $1.25k for 50NL, knowing I beat the level before comfortably. So it won't really be a hit to my roll.

yea i mean i don't see any problem in setting 10 or 20 or whatever % you're comfy with of your bankroll for coaching. if you did periodic reviews instead of a big burst all at once it wouldn't hurt much.
