Lots of people keep pointing to cost savings as a sign of insolvency. Makes little sense from a business standpoint. If anything, cost savings shore up a balance sheet!

I do agree with the sentiment that support will likely suffer. Such is life.

Agree completely with Kahn, I don't think there is anything to worry about. I don't think Carbon or Merge are in any financial trouble. I still trust Carbon and if I had any money and/or can ever manage to win a poker tournament again I'll continue to play there.

I also don't think they is a snowball's chance in hell that Carbon is moving off Merge. The Intertops - Carbon merger is but only a far away dream scenario.

Bailing without a word for the most respected poker forum, combined with the brilliant decisions they have made this year, makes me too uncomfortable. From my perspective they've had their foot in the cross-hairs all year and just pulled the trigger.

I'm going to cash and sit on the sidelines while this plays out. Sucks being a US player.

Honestly, I have a feeling Carbon & Aced are leaving/parting ways with Merge.

Carbon created the network, sold it, and now they seem like they can't wait to get off it. The present day owners of Merge don't seem like they even care about the player base numbers, so I doubt they care if Carbon leaves. In fact, they probably want them to leave. Nobody want's to buy a company and keep the original owners around forever, right? If I was Carbon, I'd be working on a deal with joining WPN. It makes the most sense to me. Especially with WPN's future plans on increasing tourney guarantees much higher. I think it's been about two years since Carbon sold the network, so I would think they are free to leave now if they so wish. We will see I guess. Usually when a big move is coming they go into hush mode beforehand. Like they are doing right now. That affiliate kid who posts all the time probably knows but he's not going to tell us in this thread I'm sure.

If history repeats, yes. Better safe than sorry. It seemed like every time in the past when a skin on Merge closed with no warning the players got stuck with their points with no options to cash them in, because it was a "Merge" decision and not the skins decision. So no reason to let Merge screw you like they did so many others before. Hero was the only skin where the owner gave players a heads up about it. The other skins went into a quiet mode before they moved and didn't communicate with their players. Sound familiar?

I don't want to give any advice but I will say a lot of players didn't do this and/or use their tourney tixx and they weren't transferred to the new skin after the Hero shutdown. Only real money was transferred.
(And yes you're right SYNEXP, there was a small window of opportunity to do this before the Hero shutdown)

This May 2013 post by an August 2012 BBJ winner included both the bad and the good news about withdrawals from Carbon:

Otherwise I deposited all the others via ATM and they cleared with no issues. Still that wasnt quick enough for me............

...........So I moved to Canada. Now the good news for ROW players and it should ease US players minds as well. The day I got here I was able to cash out through Skrill a little under $100K. It was processed immediately from Carbon and took 8 days to show up in my Skrill account. My take from all this is that your $$ is safe with Carbon and they are doing their best to get it to you as fast as possible, whether or not you are US or ROW player.

Well GL all, now go out and crush souls

As I've recently stated, I can and have dealt with most issues regarding internet poker. However, crappy software and disconnects are two issues I choose not to bother with. And WPN seems to be a leader in both. Just sayin...

Carbon has software dev experience. Maybe they could improve it over time. I know what you are saying though. It's a present day mess over there. Their plans to increase tourney guarantees seems ambitious all things being equal. Makes me think they know something we don't about possible new players joining the site. Who knows. Speculation is just that.

I love how even though there is warning sign after warning sign people still remain ever hopeful.

Maybe not meeting the guarantees in PM is the last straw that sinks them or maybe they were sunk a while ago.

What a shady company move to close the thread without a word and redirect us to their know nothing online customer service.

With FT finally giving out refunds, with NJ and NV looking to combine their player pools the USA will have all the options we need hopefully in a year or less. If you get your money lost on this shady site you deserve what you get.

Things have definitely been ok for the time I've been playing on Carbon also. (about 1 year and 10 months) but I think you have to be very skeptical right now.
Given all of the changes in recent weeks/months and now this, Carbon leaving the Merge network is a very good possibility.
As a matter of fact, as I and Synergistic have pointed out in previous posts, it actually seems likely.

good for you. Get your money out and play live for a while. Airfare and a motel room should be no problem for big winners. Vegas, LA, even Philly had a nice tournament series coming up.

My question is with the history of online poker, with big corporation spending a lot of money and having politicians on their side to get back into online poker, with the recent cutbacks in VIP and now leaving this site without a word why would anyone take a chance?
