Always heard Bovada had great customer support and decent traffic. So I'm getting ready to make an account and deposit on here, then I read this thread..

Is the disconnecting just not that big of a deal to certain people? Or is the company so good with reimbursing players that nobody minds a random disconnect?
I feel like I'd FLIP the **** out if I was CL in a decent MTT that was getting close to the bubble only to disconnect and get 2x my BI back, even if it is guaranteed profit.

Also, I know most of this info is probably ITT, but can someone give me a yes or no if the MTT traffic/selection is decent compared to Carbon (Merge)?

If the only real difference is the anonymity and a random disconnect every few months, I figure it's worth depositing here instead of Carbon.
Any advice is appreciated, thanks.
First off there's no rakeback and no P2P transfers on Bovada, and there probably never will be. They've run small bonuses in the past, but nothing that is considered anything useful past micro stakes.

Some people disconnect all the time, some people rarely disconnect. They have had some sort of ongoing server issue for the past number of months where it seems every few weeks they crash, the thread goes nuts with people thinking the DOJ shut them down, and then they come up some time later.

They've been very good at refunding money if a disconnect is a result of a server crash. They've been very bad at admitting when a problem is their fault. Even when the entire thread blows up with disconnects and crashes, the first line support typically sends out the form letter that it isn't their issue.

Their support runs the gamut of being the best there is and the worst there is. All depends on who you get really.

Not live but you can get a program called Bovada Hand Converter that converts your hand histories after the fact to HEM or PT and load them into your database. You can review the hands and it'll show the hole cards of players. Good to see what people are doing and prevent any collusion and also good for study after the fact.

I have a question for all new depositors.

I can't make a new account being in NY but I have 2 friends opening accounts. One from vermont and mass.

Mass just opened an account no issues. 4 last digits of SS for verification and that was it

Vermont friend is saying they want to see ID and utility bill. I have never heard of this for opening an account, just for withdrawal.

Anyone else experience this?

The guy from Vermont probably lives close enough to NY that they want to do some form of location/residency verification to make sure he doesn't actually live in NY.

Vt guy is 45 min from albany and Ma guy is 75 min away

Can't see how that would affect it

His IP might be based in NY

But how on earth would they know that if someone hasn't even played yet?

Just based on him telling him a Vermont address you think Bovada conducts research right away on that?

Guess I have no other ways of knowing why.

They are going to ask for an ID and utility bill if you ever want to cash out anyway so it's not a big deal. You don't have to play for them to know your IP, you just have to log in and create an account which he obviously did if they are asking for docs. Like already said, his IP is probably based in NY but his address isn't so they want to make sure that he isn't in NY up front. Regardless, he's going to send it in eventually.

Google maps says it takes 48 minutes to get from Albany to the border of Vermont. He must live pretty darn close to the border.

Over the last week or so, bovada will freeze/shut-down about 30% of the times I click on a table', Lobby>Tournament Lobby tab. Oh, and if I start a new cash table it flickers wildly until cards are in the air. Good times.

Not here..

I hadn't had a freeze drop in long time.. But last night couldn't log in for a bit is all

Beggars can't be choosers I guess.

I don't really have anything to add, but wanted to point out and make sure people know that this is incorrect. Unless it is something they started in the last 3 months or so, I never had to do this to get a check.

I haven't in my 5 years of playing not been asked at some point to send in verification docs on any site. The majority make you do it before you ever withdrawal and if they don't they will eventually. Bovada didn't for the first 6 months and probably 20 withdrawals I made, but they eventually did. It's standard practice. If you don't want to send these items in you may as well not even make an account. They will also ask for copies of your credit/debit card that you deposited w/ 100% guaranteed to protect them from charge backs.

Ya I understand it is a standard practice I have had to do it on every other site I have ever made a withdraw from. Almost 3 years on bovada and at least 50 checks and I have never had to do this.

You're a rarity then. Regardless, if you're depositing on a poker site and don't want to send that stuff in you may as well not even deposit.

So, do any of you guys not have a fixed address with any bills in your name? How do you get payouts then?

I'd like a subform to ask questions about bovada in kinda like WPN and pokerstars. Since bovada has a lot of traffic I feel like it should get one.

With that being said - If you win a tourney ticket for a certain event - like the SMPO - and can't use it because you won't be around for the month - will it expire or turn into cash?

A bank statement works too. But I'm pretty sure bovada only required a photo ID and front and back of credit/debit card.

Poker Stars doesn't have one (just one for their beta software). That said, you should let Bovada know - we'd be happy to let them pay for one.

I agree.

that being said, I'm hearing of more and more people who have cashed out multiple times on Bovada without sending in the standard docs.

I've noticed one thing these players had in common; they are not requesting large payouts(a few hundred here and there, maybe $500 at once etc...). This is just a casual observation, I can't say for sure whether its the actual reason behind them not having to verify their account.

regardless, I don't like the precedent this sets.

Bovada needs to verify any and all accounts attempting to cashout winnings for obvious reasons.

Any good promos going on with Bovada? I may make a reload on there in the next couple months.

All other programs I'm using, the sound works fine thorough the computer.
Been having the mac lag lately as well, so bad in fact it's basically impossible to play on and just stumbled upon a discovery.

So I had my Apple TV on and noticed the sound from the poker game was coming through my TV, even though my Mac wasn't Airplaying to my Apple TV.

I was going to airplay some music from my phone while I played poker.

Here was the discovery, when I attempted to airplay from my phone the music, the poker sounds went away and the app immediately started to lag and I would constantly get the little mac spinner.

I immediately went an unplugged the apple tv, it took about a min but once the computer stopped showing the airplay icon in the the poker app unfroze and is running normal now.

I tested this theory a second time and it did it again. So somehow bovada is air playing the sound to the apple tv and when another device tries to take over it goes haywire and lags out.

I've never been asked to verify my IDs by Bovada following a cashout request, and I've cashed out more than that, as I don't like doing small cashouts. I prefer to cashout close to max each time and not cash out again until I make a bunch. (800 ish the first time, 3K the second and like 2.2k the third.) I've only ever deposited once, 250 bucks October of last year.

I'd imagine that would change if I, say, changed addresses or something.
