“Kannwas” Adds Whale Title to Impressive 888poker Résumé
The biggest buy-in of the weekend was the $1,050 Whale, which surpassed its $50K GTD by attracting 54 players who rebought 19 times. Among those to compete for a portion of a $73K prize pool, but ultimately fall short, were Stephen “Kale333” Van Zadelhoff, Chris “NigDawgG” Brammer, and 888poker Ambassador Martin “MJacobson888” Jacobson.
Just the top seven players got paid including “wellyxx” (5th - $5,475), “DosPoochies” (4th - $7,300), and “sonmonedass” (3rd - $10,950). After 5 hours and 31 minutes, Austria’s “Kannwas” defeated Sweden’s Simon” Isildur1337x” Mattsson in heads-up play to win $25,550. The Swede walked away with a $16,425 consolation prize.
You might remember that “Kannwas” won the 2016 Super XL Main Event for nearly $41K and finished runner-up in the 2017 XL Inferno High Roller for $129,600.
Brazil’s “GritinhO_Dzi” Takes Down the Sunday Mega Deep
The $215 buy-in Sunday Mega Deep featured a $100K GTD, but with 365 players rebuying 195 times a $112,000 prize pool was up for grabs. The top 48 players earned a piece of it including Niklas “tutten7” Åstedt (31st - $762),”summuNNN” (23rd - $1,086), “Al_Robbya” (12th - $1,960), and “GangstaGo” (4th - $8,680).
After “PoulPanasony” took his leave in third place for $12,040, the title came down to Brazil’s “GritinhO_Dzi” and Canada’s “BrAvEHrT1.” After nearly 12 hours in the tournament, the Brazilian came out the victor to the tune of $21,560. It marked his first win on 888pokr since July 7, 2017 when he won the $10,000 Deepstack Swordfish for $1,685.
“summuNNN” Claims GREAT 8 Title for the UK
The $88 buy-in $10,000 Sunday GREAT 8 crushed its guarantee by drawing 134 players who rebought 46 times. That created a $14,400 prize pool paid out to the top 24 players including “msksevart” (21st - $180), Preban “prebzzz” Stokkan (11th - $324), Sam “sammygrinder” Grafton (5th - $792), and “MAMOHT_T” (3rd - $1,728).
After 5 hours and 45 minutes, the title came down to the UK’s “summuNNN” and Canada’s “guydeet39.” Eventually, the former came out on top to capture a $3,132 first-place prize.
Ireland’s “CheryWaaves” Wades Through Tough Sunday DeepStack Monsoon Field
The $55 buy-in Sunday DeepStack Monsoon featured a $10K GTD, which it easily blew by after 207 player rebought 67 times and created a $13,700 prize pool. Among the top 27 to get paid were “luffEEE” (26th - $137), “Dablinov” (12th - $240), and “alexos888” (4th - $1,199).
After 8 hours and 52 minutes, it was Ireland’s “CheryWaaves” defeating Germany’s “tier999111” in hads-up play to win the tournament for $2,946.
Romania’s “IlovePickles” Weathers the Monsoon to Win $2,784
The $55 buy-in, $10K GTD Monsoon saw 198 players take to the virtual felt and rebuy 61 times, which created a $12,950 prize pool paid out to the top 27 spots. Among those to cash were Bryan “DePittsterje” Paris (16th - $162), “Jamiemegan12” (6th - $647.50), and “GramNaKartke” (5th - $777).
After “SmoothHustla” bowed out in third place for $1,522, the title came down to Malta’s “wh4tishat3” and Romania’s “IlovePickles.” After exactly seven hours, the latter took down the title and accompanying $2,784 top prize.
