I just received this e-mail. We're heading to Paris after London and Cannes. What do you guys think about this decision?

WSOP EUROPE ON THE MOVE

PARIS, FRANCE TO HOST 2013 EVENT IN OCTOBER
AT HISTORIC CASINO BARRIЀRE ENGHIEN-LES-BAINS

Tournament Series returns to mid-October Dates

PARIS (December 17, 2012) – The 7th Annual World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) presented by BarrierePoker.fr is moving to one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, this time taking up residence in France’s oldest and most historic casino – the lakefront Casino Barrière Enghien-les-Bains in greater Paris.

The 2013 WSOP Europe will be held from October 11-24, 2013 in the urban getaway town of Enghien-les-Bains, an affluent suburb less than 10 miles from the French capital. The Barrière owned resort facilities have undergone significant renovation, and now include Paris’ number one spa and wellness complex, “The Spark.”

With state-of-the-art convention/congress facilities that will allow all tournament play in one room, an opulent 500 seat theatre to host final tables and television production, the signature spa to rejuvenate players, and two hotels as part of its complex, this location promises to be the most comfortable and conducive set up for poker players in the WSOPE’s seven-year history.

“Part of our vision for WSOP Europe is to mix poker and pleasure – and introduce players to some of the most exciting destinations in Europe,” said WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart. “Barrière’s facilities in Enghien are amazing and there are likely 12 million Parisians all trying to make sure “Phillipe” Hellmuth doesn’t win another bracelet on French soil. With our ideal dates scheduled to avoid conflicts for traveling players, expanded TV coverage and qualifiers planned, we expect to be back in record-setting mode in 2013.”

While the complete event schedule is still to be finalized, it is expected that seven WSOP gold bracelet events will be on the calendar, plus a high rollers event, and an assortment of satellites, cash games and side events, all concluding with the €10,000 Main Event.

Enghien-les-Bains is a wealthy suburb of Paris, with its own train station, just a 10-minute commute from the Gare du Nord (North Station). Gare du Nord connects to the Paris metro (subway) service, and also runs trains to Belgium, Netherlands, Germany and the United Kingdom, including Chunnel service to London.

Special rates for players will be made available on WSOP.com at a later date at the Grand Hotel Barrière, the Hotel du Lac and additional hotels in the greater Paris area.

The previous two WSOPE’s were held in Cannes, France, while from 2007-10, WSOPE was held in London, England.

I think it's cool to move it around, although to a different country would have been better than just a different city in France.

Amsterdam would be nuts, like someone said. Not sure about the logistic of having it there, as I've never been to a casino or anything, but it's a sweet city and the weathers good in the summer. Plus certain elements of life over there might... soften the fields a bit...

Of course you want it in Paris and not London.. the average English poker player is close to the best of any nationality while the average French player is just terrible... and Paris is a far better location than Cannes simply because a lot of people can't/don't want to make it out to Cannes.

Amsterdam.. no.. can you imagine how slow the cash games would be with half the table stoned? Plus once again the average Dutch player isn't that bad...

10 miles, about a 15 minute train from the central station, which has connections to all over Europe

Since Paris Metro doesn't go to Enghien-les-Bains, what is the most efficient way of getting there.. I would assume some kind of bus service from Saint-Denis?

I would assume since it's a wealthy area it's relatively safe? Where would be best places to stay for a couple of weeks, not necessarily by casino but within walking or short bus/cab ride?

We usually get apartments in Cannes, I am guessing there will be serviced or partially serviced ones there as well.

The area immediately surrounding the casino and lake is nice. But outside of that and you will find some of the worst ghettos in the Paris suburbs. The train goes here it's just not a metro stop, it's the RER lines. For the best accomodations stay in Cergy haha.

This is very valid, some of Paris is not safe whatsoever.

WSOPE should move to a new city on a four yearly rotation. Something like London, Cannes, San Remo, Amsterdam. Poker enthusiasts in each country would make a massive effort to qualify for the Main if they new it was only in there country for one year in four. It would also be a lot easier to get press attention.

It won't ever be in Amsterdam for legal reasons. San Remo is a s-hole too, although it is close to very nice things.

Paris is better than Cannes logistically, but Cannes is nice. The ACF games will be good then too. It will be like London where only small stakes will be around the crappy tourney venue.

Never say never, we're in the process of breaking open the gambling market in Holland. It's a long process taking at least some years I assume, but it looks like Holland Casino will loose it's exclusive rights on gambling. Maybe we'll see a WSOPE or EPT one day.

iirc, in France they deduct 4% tax from winnings (on top of entry fees, staff deductions etc), they restrict the variants of poker allowed and cash game rake is hilarious. Shouldn't it be held in a more poker-friendly country?

I've never been there but the location seems very isolated, with the Barriere hotels being the only hotels around. This seems like a major step down from Cannes to me.
