Sergii Baranov – runner up in the WSOPE Main Event – offered Hellmuth to split the money and then lose the heads up on purpose in order for Hellmuth to win bracelet no. 13.

props to Hellmuth in wanting to win it the ol' fashioned way.

I believe Phil Hellmuth to be a man of honor, but that has nothing to do with this story. It would be stupid of Hellmuth to accept the money split regardless of honor/integrity/etc. The only thing Baranov accomplished by opening up is that he made himself look bad.

what if
the real deal was to split $$ n PH win the bracelet but also Baranov must say that he offered this deal and PH refused

Phil did the right thing. He may be a jackass but he knew he could best that guy. If he was hu against Seidel or Ivey our someone of the like I think he probably takes the deal. Who knows though.

It appears that they did in fact chop the money, and played it out for 100K and the bracelet.

fairly stupid of the WSOP to not aid in dealmaking for players, especially when pokerstars not only reports chops and deals, they help players through the process so they don't have to do it outside of the casino.

as much as i hate hellmuth and think hes nowhere close to the skilllevel he thinks he is, i do haveta say he is a standup honorable guy. That other guy is a skum tho, phil only cares for bracelet.. he wants to EARN IT thats why he gets so emotional.

Ivey: Hellmuth, please, you`re so much better than me, I`d be happy with 50% of the money and you get the title!

...sounds a lot like Ivey, imo.

All deals must be prohibitted or stop telling the world that poker is a kind of sports.

As opposed to the 100% squeaky clean record that all other sports enjoy?

oh here we go, another backhanded complement thread for Phil where people go on to say good for him but he still sucks blah blah blah....he's so bad blah blah, his results last couple years say otherwise despite still be "old outdated livepro". Like him or hate him he's doing something right STILL after many years.

Personally I think he's adjusted really well to the pre-flop brawling that has become the standard in MTT poker these days. I think he's simply tightened up and picked his spots extremely well-his Patience seem unmatched also FWIW. Also, I think people don't give him and guys like Antonio enough credit for keeping up with the game over the past few years. Phil may be a jackass but to think he doesn't analyze hands, discuss hands etc with MTT thought leaders is just naive
