It was a slow day for me today, so I decided to waste a few hours compiling some statistics on some WSOP players. I used the $25K Fantasy League to generate the player list to be analyzed. While this list may not necessarily represent the “top 88” tournament players, it is unquestionably a strong group of tournament players. I included all WSOP events in the data, with the exception of the $1MM One-Drop Event (that tourney seemed like a “one-off exhibition”, rather than a tournament for the general player pool, so I did not include it). I’ll leave it up to you to draw your own conclusions about what the results indicate about tournament play, but here are a few interesting highlights:
• Overall Combined ROI: 24.11%
• 26 players profitable for the series, 62 unprofitable
• Most events played: 48, George Lind (also with the biggest loss, -$203,020)
• Most Cashes: 9, Joe Tehan (overall series loss of $13,900)
• Most Event Played without a cash: 24, Alexander Kostritsyn
• Highest Cash Percentage: 60%, Daniel Alaei (6 of 10)
Combined Buy-Ins: $10,749,000
Combined Cashes: $13,340,230
Disclaimer: I used the wsopdb.com website for tournament buy in data, and thehendonmob.com player database for cashing results. I compiled the data quickly by hand, so it’s possible some minor errors may have occurred. Enjoy!
