I wish more of these guys looked like drunk 1-2 NL players. To the casual viewers these guys must look like nits with no personality and it’s going to make poker look very boring.

Dyer winning would form a sort of poetic capstone to poker in the post-Moneymaker era to me. From what I've seen he's basically the platonic ideal of "solid TAG" right down to the fact that he's seemingly both an unknown and long time pro? And his personality is on par with the stale loaf of bread above my refrigerator.

On his play tonight: "I just try to make good decisions."

On animal crackers: "It's just snacks."

Fair enough. But also: **** you.

And he just looks like such a big dummy with his messy hair and torn baby blue hoodie with the balloons on it like he just rolled out of a literal crib onto the biggest stage in poker.

His play is solid and I can't fault him for how he carries himself; I think I would probably follow a similarly lonewolf path myself.

Still, I hope he busts in some kind of heinously miserable entertainment to Cada or Cynn that might elicit some kind of reaction from this giant sack of potatoes.

Definitely. Impossible to pick up tells when his posture and demeanor continually inspires you to remember which is the care bear that's depressed and addicted to gambling.

All told though, I've really enjoyed the coverage the past few days and like the final table. Despite its narrative hangups, the general vibe and pace of play is very nice and even humanistic.

And also, narratively, I actually think Cada should be receiving a lot more noise (it's been ramping up) and hope he wins just because it seems as statistically likely as man crawling out of the slime.

In other news, we could yet have a double bracelet winner as Volpe is chip leader and Deeb close behind in the 10K six max with 17 left

No PokerGo coverage in the UK it seems. Really gutted, doubt I would have spent the $10 if I knew FT coverage would be missing.

PokerGo

Also lied to me day before CS in email said UK would get the coverage on PokerGo

They replied fast

When I saw that was a lie I emailed for a refund and they are yet to respond

Manion reminds me of Jay Farber, just without all the coaching leading up to November....so can't see him quite getting as far as Jay. I'm all for the Novermber Nine ending for this reason alone. In what other sport do you get to nip away for months of practicing/training/coaching before the final?!

Dyer looks like a good Peter Eastgate type champion, do it for the aspies.

Would be sweet to see Cada win, hopefully top 3 at least.

I have to pile on here- Miles is annoying as fack and I have not seen this thread in a couple of days so it's coming from me. He has an arrogance to him. I also think he is ALWAYS playing it up for the camera. The word "disingenuous" was used in an earlier thread and think its befitting.

Sidebar- As far as the ex-drug addict comment: Some of the kindest people I have met with the best hearts have been drug addicts. Usually had some bad **** happen to them as innocent children and have more empathy than most.

Final thought- Cada just seems humble as heck. I really like the guy. I bet if he was playing next to you on the 5/10 or whatever he would just chat you up without putting on any heirs ( Jamie Gold was like this actually)

Another annoying comment by Miles that I hadn’t seen mentioned. In his ore taped interview he said something like “I grew up playing sports and a big part of that is being clutch in the moment. I didn’t do a good job of being clutch back then, so hopefully this is redemption.”

I'm with you on this. Makes me question if I'd stick out with my betting size(s) if I was to play in this event.

What probably happened is someone (before this table probably) had a couple of hands that this bet size made sense and then it catches on as being 'standard'.

I'm a low stakes guy (1/2) and typically the open is $12 at this level. I've noticed if I have a couple of orbits where I happen to open for $17, then others will start to mimic this as well.

besides that I have no clue why the opens have been so weak.

He is a LAG not a TAG. I specifically remember has played 64s, 43o, he has run more bluffs than anyone else at the table. His rungood has been amplified by his aggressive play, remember that he got 3 streets of value out of Tptk vs A high because his image was so bad. He seems to be a lower stakes grinder, which IMO is better than piling another 8.8 m into Cada’s already very full bank account

Miles ran just as well as Dyer but he sucks so he got way less value. AQ got correctly folded to Miles’s 3 bet, you could say its a bad fold, or you could say Miles has a straightforward range there and is bleeding tells, and Dyer wouldve been shipped on there all day.

Manion sucks and got in thru a Satellite, thats the exact type of player I root for at the final table. Shame he isnt super interesting, but it isnt like Moneymaker was some perfect personality for the role he ended up playing.

We really need Miles to bust because he is vacuuming up all the attention with his stupid antics, and maybe the cameramen will focus on something other than crappy dance moves and chip tricks

I'm guessing you're implying that Dyer is socially awkward with this post.

I was thinking about 'if I was at the FT who would I have come along' and part of me always thinks that I wouldn't want anyone there. My fear is that I would invite someone to come sweat me and while they're in transit I would bust. The added pressure on that facet is something I think I would want to avoid.

Also think it would be cool for my peeps to get the word via TV.. "oh ****, is that Noles1724?!? wtf!?!?"..

2-2.5x raised are considered reasonably standard correct strategy at this depth in tourneys. Much more than that and you give them too mich incentive to jam.

Its possible that 2x is table mimicking but its not far off what people would be doing anyway.

right and the only reason why he apologized to Antonio is because there was audio and he was caught... not because he's a 'good' guy.

They asked Maria Ho when she would ask her rail to come and she said 27 players. She said shed want to be far enough along that if they showed up and she busted before the final table and so they couldnt rail, she would at least want to celebrate. Running the final table without even 1 day off is really ****ty to the players IMO.

If i were at the final table, id want a day or two to get my rail to show up, go pick the clothes out id want to wear while on TV, (maybe talk to some stype person...) maybe grab a few sponsors, do some studying on shorthanded play, do a few interviews, clear my head, try and get some sleep.

The reason why the whole thread is filled with love or hate for people over as much as 1 statement is because ESPN basically didnt bother to flesh out anyone’s personality. And maybe the reason he is wearing a hoodie with baloons on it (is it an UP hoodie?) is because its the hoodie he owns, and its comfortable and he didnt have time to pick out something better.

You're right. I was probably too harsh with that comment. Maybe Dyer's family and friends live too far away and weren't able to come on a days notice. They do need to give at least 1 day before the final table, but this year ESPN needed these dates apparently and WSOP had to give in.

It's just odd that each time Dyer won a pot it was completely silent. No clapping at all. I'm pretty sure every other player who has been at the final table in the November nine era has had a decent rail supporting them.

Yes, like the other players sitting quietly still aside from the incessant chip shuffling. You want the camera focused on Dyer and Manion?

Miles is clearly having the most fun, and his personality is looser than the others (which can be goofy or annoying to some people) because he's completely thrilled to have made it to the final table. I've played 2-5 NL against him in local card rooms, and this is the type of guy he is. He has a lot of nervous energy and it comes out sometimes in silly statements and physical displays (like that dancing). He's an outgoing and personable guy overall.

You make a couple good points. Since the change to the November 9 vs how it is now, they have not had time to properly prepare and the footage is much worse. As a poker enthusiast I dont need all the bells and whistles and like the game play. However its cool to have a few good storylines for the casual observer ( and us as well if I am being honest)

Miles is just a straight up turd- I am rooting for Cynn- I appreciated his emotion when they asked him about losing his friend. He seems like a genuinely nice guy. Lets get one for the nice guys.

Here my breakdown:

Dyer- Tool- annoyingly disinterested- annoy chip flip
Manion- lucky and just kinda meh
Cynn- My favorite of the unknowns- showed his human side- seems like he's got some personality
Miles- Disingenuous self absorbed tool bag who is constantly playing up for the camera even when hes not on camera
Cada- Super cool humble pro whos game is eons ahead of when he last won
Zobian- Likeable. Seems to have the flu or something-

yeah I imagine if I was at the table I would adapt. Usually I'm looking for what the amount to get heads up needs to be to determine my opens. In this case, everyone is so worried/disciplined that going multi-way to a flop isn't nearly as common as the $125 tourney's that I play.

The November Nine thing was pointless, but yeah, give them a day to catch their breath, get some friends into town, get a clean shirt.

I’ve the “what would I do” game myself, and decided I would also have a pretty sad rail based on who would drop everything at 1am on a weekday and get on the next plane to Vegas with no time to prepare.

I also think people overestimate if somebody is playing it up for the camera when they have little or no on-camera experience or even know when the camera is on them.

Anyone know whether the one drop coverage will also be blacklisted in some countries?

I hope not.

Really sucky for people in Europe not being able to even watch the replay - so we either have to wake up at 3am or miss out on it
