It’s not even that bad if the weather is nice IMO. I live in a house with wife and child and am sometimes tempted to just pass out in my car listening to podcasts for funsies.
You've come a long way since we hung out in aruba with your shoes perpetually untied.

Good to hear from you and have been keeping tabs on your posts and they are awesome.

Wife and a kid?! Awesome. Would think you would take my line and be an old 40 yr old with neither. Life happens and I'll bet ur at least as happy as me.

You know me. I had my 04' 2p2 account banned for saying things that are not even as mean as people have been saying to rick but w/e..

if rainbow warrior reads this remember that when I re-signed up an account under my real name you banned that so whenever someone searches my real name you see that i'm banned on 2+2 with 0 posts.

i still play a bunch of poker but as an aspiring coder it is annoying when employers search me and see I am banned.

what is your real name rainbow?

Speaking of geniuses. I see another PG&C thread where the OP has dropped out of high school to play poker full-time.

What could possibly go wrong with that plan?

It kind of makes you wonder what their parents and friends think. And whether they try to talk them out of it.

In my opinion, a few key conditions need to be in place before you go pro:

1. You enjoy the game, both when winning and losing (the key part is the losing - everyone feels great when they're winning, but can you equally say the same when you're on a downswing? the vast majority of people can't, and there's no shame in that)

2. You are making good money. In other words, a solid middle class wage wherever you're from. Or you could get to that level pretty quickly. Obviously the more money you're making, the better.

3. You have a good backup plan if games dry up, games become too tough or regulation forces you to quit.

4. You have a balanced life and don't let the game consume you.

Seems to me that most of these wannabe pros fall short in at least one of these areas, if not 2, 3 or even all 4 of these areas!

Agree with all of that.

The back-up plan is critical imo. And we all know downswings can be brutal in poker. So a large BR is mandatory as well, or at least another source of income to fall back on.

Nothing wrong with studying or working as well as playing poker part-time until those conditions are met. I really don't understand this burn all your bridges mentality. It just seems really dumb to me.

Yes, the majority of pros wouldn't be around if it weren't for sponsorship or other external income. Backup plans are even more important these days, as is a larger bankroll because edges are smaller.

Well she tracked the IP and immediately banned new acct. I wanted to post under my real name for transparency. People thought I was too crazy and not a real poster.

It actually is not that bad because it looks bad ass according to one IV I had. It gives slight proof other than my tax returns. I am not a live player with a bunch of googlable tournament wins.

But hell man I had 300 posts on that banned acct. What's going on under your hood that you got 30k posts in 3 years?

Total narcissist.

Even on this page of this thread, you got so desperate you started replying to your own posts.

I am tech savvy enough to figure out Rainbow Warrior's name. Has not been active for 6 months.

What am I gonna do now that I know her name?

Nothing.

I am too busy and I don't care and I don't hold grudges.

Edit: I see 3k not 30k. still a narcissist.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend you dude.

Still wasn't very smart though, was it?

P.S. I've had every insult in the book thrown at me on this site, believe me. Narcissist is one of the nicer ones actually. You have to have a thick skin on the internet.

Ha. All good. You did not offend me. I just wanted to reply. Not a genius (I know you were being sarcastic); just well read and hard working.

At 40 yrs old or even 30 or even 20 i am not scared about people knowing my name and banning me on a poker forum.

You don't know all the details of the exchange to understand if it was smart. I had to stand up for myself and this girl hates men.

I wish I did not know her name because the more I learn about her...

I just feel bad and maybe i'm immature and maybe I was too mean or whatever.

has not posted since I was banned 4 years ago

I'll give her a pass

Take things like chess, sports, E sports, etc, and you’ll notice the common trend with the up and coming players is that they have been playing intensely since their early to mid teens. With chess, some start off as young as nine years old and then go on to be world class.

With poker, you legally cannot play until you’re 18.

1. So you don’t have the 5+ years of intensive practice like you would have in other competitive fields.

2. 18 is also the time where you have less free time with regards to having to manage a job and education (or just a full time job). So even if you wanted to get your head down and grind / study from 18+ onwards, you’ll have way less time than when you were just going to school. You can play / study more poker in one year as an underage teenager, than you could in three years as an adult in a full time job.

These weren’t issues pre Black Friday when edges were so huge. But now that competition is tougher, these are very tough challenges.

+1, and you have to battle through a lot of regulars even if they are bad regs to move up (maybe something like 1-2 fish vpiping 50/30+ at a table and rest regulars or maybe only 1 fish even at the micros etc.)

2 fish vpiping 50/30+ at a table? lmao, that doesn't happen anymore. You're lucky if there's even 1 of those type of players on your table these days.

Typical online cash table these days comprises 5 regs + 1 semi-weak player. The regs aren't amazing but they don't need to be. They just need to lose at a rate less than the rake in order for you not to profit against them.

Because there are way too many russian bots nowadays.

For example: I am playing against a russian bot right now: SoFatDan.
He has not taken a break in 4 hours. That **** is unfair man. Although you can figure them out is annoying as **** to play some one who never tilts and never gets tired. You report that to PS and they say that they all passed the tests. **** you Amaya!

Except basically only in Korea could you make a 7 + figure yearly salary at that time. Now most of the big streamers are pulling in minimum 6 figures from streaming alone, while in some cases also competing competitively and earning sponsorship money.

Exit opportunities are also much better, as anyone with a decent following can transition into other forms of social media that generate decent cash flow.

mostly, yeah, but there were non koreans making near 6 figures early 2000s. im sure fatality made a ton.

but to get into streaming today isnt any easier than poker, really. esp considering you make zero dollars on your way up vs poker you can grind along and live off some. big lol at your last point tho. progamers are gonna do what? become IG models?

im quite sure there are less streamers making 6 figs than poker players making 6 figs.

Holy cow i miss the old days. I was 24 tabling Nl5 nitttring with 9/7 Stats an was making like 16$/hr.
Today i can only think how much $$$ i let go by not moving up.

Remember the times when fish always stacked off pre with any kind of pocket pair.
Set Mining and hitting set in Fullring always was nearly at least 1 Stack in my Pocket.

When i looked on Pokertableratings (i guess that was the name?)I think it was in 2010 there where players Making 20k+ a month at Nl100

ohhh boy that hurts...
In todays games a player has to take insane variance for little profit.

I can remember there was 5cents per 1$ rake on Stars. So NL2 and NL5 where nearly rakefree.

You're very much overstating this. Almost no one ever had a $20k month at full ring $100nl when ptr was around. The month was usually won by someone having a ~$13k month. /former $100-$400nl full ring pro when ptr was around

the very best starcraft players didn't make close to 7 figures, I think the absolute best was close to 500k
