Why don't I like Antonio Esfandiari? Why don't I like Antonio Esfandiari?

Seems like a nice enough guy....just had a nice win at the WPT. But there's something about his personality. A little smug. A little too much 'look at me, I'm living the life'. I've never warmed up to him. Again, he does seem genuinely friendly and personable. Good poker player. Its obvious that I don't have to preface this (but I will) with the fact I don't know him personally or any of the other poker players. Its just my opinion and it comes from a place of ignorance, mostly, as it would anyone that isnt an acquaintance of his.

But there's just something about Antonio that I find rubs me just a bit wrong. Don't know if anyone else feels the same?

Who said it wasn't? I'm bringing the subject up because he JUST won a tourney. Its topical. I didn't say anything about his poker history, wins or aptitude at the table. I know his history. I'm saying he's ALWAYS appeared smug to me, not just during this tourney.

Antonio: Living life, out partying, making money, having fun
OP: Sitting at his computer moaning about someone living life, out partying, making money and having fun

I know whose life I'd prefer.

Serinda Swan I believe... could be wrong tho

As far as Antonio goes, I was outside the poker room at Caesars when the NBC Heads up Championship was going on; Antonio showed up noonish, clearly hungover/just plain not used to getting up that early, and promptly signed every single autograph, took every picture with every fan, shook everyones hand who asked, gave hugs to girls , chatted small talk with anyone who asked any petty question, all with a smile on his face. Just about every other poker player I saw just walked by in a rush, maybe shaking one or two hands. I can tell you from experience, Antonio is most certainly not 'smug' or unlikeable in any way.

(I wasn't there to get an autograph or picture btw... just an observer)

Antonio is good people imo..

This. The only reason Antonio is out doing these pointless things "IRL" (whatever that is) is because he can't hack it here on the forums. I think we all agree that we'd rather have the OPs life over antonios

He really came off like a total spass some years ago. But I think he has deliberately tried to change that.
And it has worked. I don't hate him anymore, I just don't like him.

What tilts me the most about him is everyone (commentators mostly) referring to him as "the magician". It's ****ing gay. No one calls him like that.

He's one of my favorite pros. He was a big douchey when he was making "I Bet You" along with Phil Laak but he's matured since and his game improved a lot too. Whenever he's sitting at a table, the table talk is entertaining. I can't say that about his game though, he comes out pretty nitty sometimes but who cares if it works for him. I've only seen him play huge stakes against really good pros though, I think he's a lot more aggro with more moderate stakes/weaker fields.

Cliff : I'm ****ing jealous too but I don't hate him cause he's cool.

do you think he's nitty when playing with Phil Hellmuth?
12-09-2010 , 11:44 AM
QUESTION FOR OP ---> would you rather your life or his?

No. You're probably referring to the PAD shows. In the cash game, they were playing 100-200 NL so the stakes were more moderate and the table was weak so obv he could be move active. I was referring to his HSP appearances. In tourneys he's pretty active too.
