On Doyles last blog entry he metions "The cash games were plentiful and there was $5 million lost in Bobby's Room where I play. I feel I could have won my share of that money had I not been involved in the tournament". Any idea who this was? I apologize if a thread has already been started on this. I searched a little but did not see one.

That went out the window when Brian Townsend sat down to play Sammy & Bobby. Since then (maybe before), NL/PLO games have been going at 1k/2k with straddles and pots up to $1.8 million.

I heard it was John Mendelsonbaum, a real estate guy from Kansas, but has propery mainly in East Europe and West Africa.

He is considered one of the best poker players in West Africa, and he wanted to test himself with the big game.

I've been arguing with my friend about this for a while. My point of view is this, for Doyle to be such a successful prop better over his life (golf, various other games) he has got to be an angle shooter. Nobody plays props straight up without an angle and is a long term winner. I think Doyle's nice guy attitude is somewhat of a facade that allows him to angle shoot without people realizing. The debate got even more heated after Doyle challenged Patrik to a golf match at 100k a hole. I'm sorry but I don't believe there is any way that Doyle could play this match without an angle and expect to be a winner (his AGE, WEIGHT, VARIOUS HEALTH ISSUES). My friend argued something along the lines of "absolutely Doyle will win he has a killer short game blah blah blah". Well look what Doyle posts in his blog today only a few weeks after issuing the challenge and having it accepted by Patrik.

Doyle is smart to realize that Patrik is enough a competitor that it is highly unlikely he backs away from the challenge now even after Doyle has set up this stipulation that clearly gives him a huge edge. So I say again, Doyle is the worlds biggest angle shooter and nobody appears to realize it.
