What is the point of tournaments? What is the point of tournaments?

After seeing this year's FT and being bitterly disappointed, suck out after suck out, the best hand never winning, it made me realize that tournaments are a big waste of time. I have totally lost faith in all tournaments, good thing I switched to cash tables 2 months ago, I dont think I will ever play another MTT after seeing this atrocity.

I think the point of donkaments is to win $8.5 million off a $10K entry.

He just wasted 10 days of his life, not to mention wear and tear on his brains.

He shoulda just took the 10k to roulette put it on 17, after hitting let it ride. He woulda won over 10mill and it only took 10 minutes.
The odds against doing that are prolly better than how he won the ME.

Ivey's made 4 top-27s in 8 years, Harrington made 2 final tables in a row in large fields, Hellmuth has 11 bracelets, Chan went 1-1-2, Matusow's made 6th, 87th, 9th and 30th this decade, etc....many more examples of skill being a factor just in this one tournament alone, not to mention the thousands of others played every single day.

It sounds like you guys either wish bad players didn't enter tournaments or that they had no chance of winning (which would result in the same thing since they wouldn't play then). Why would you wish such a thing?

It's the lure of being able to win such money with "skill." That's what attracts people to not just donkaments, but poker as a whole - that, regardless of physical strength, age, etc., YOU can win, and you can actively increase your chances of getting far.

Are luck involved in tournaments, ABSOLUTELY, but for people to say there is no skill involved in tournament poker are really ignorant. Like crazylond said above look at the long term results of some players.

Now for 1 tournament, 1 day, 1 Final Table, anyone can run good, and anything can happen. But just like any form of poker it is a LONG TERM GAME and needs to be taken as such.

Bad players enter tournaments al the time that they have no chance of winning. As bad as Moon was, there were players worse than him at the WSOP who literally had no chance of winning.

No ****!!!! Every time I FT a MTT I look at OPR after to see how my fellow FT mates have done. It never ceases to amaze that at least one of them will finish top 3 and still be a loser overall and by a large margin. There will be one more that this score takes them from -ROI to +ROI. Last FT I made the winner was still -60% ROI after his score was posted on OPR. Keep him playing that is what I say!!!!

The first decent size tournament I played in was 9 years ago in Tunica. There was this girl at my first table who acted so new and bad that we all thought it must be an act. It wasn't and she won the thing. I've hated tournaments ever since.

In laymans terms: To get the most play out of your money. Less risk per hr and higher pay out for your money if you win.

Even if you run better than any ME winner you still aren't going to win $8.5mil with a $10k buy in, in 5 days in a cash game. (if this has actually happened I will be very surprised)

BTW: I prefer cash games.

Also the point of tourney's are to have all the chips by the end. Easy game.

That's like asking "what is the point of life" if you find the answer to one you'll find the answer to the other.

Here is the thing, in ring games people come and go and the table never breaks and you may or may not find out who was winning or losing, plus people will deny being losers. In tourney's, that is different, like Highlander said, "in the end their can be only 1"

Plus, the prestige behind winning a tournament is also what draws people.

But this is precisely why you should LOVE tournaments. DUCY?

Truth is, you could probably win 30million if there was high enough stakes games available.
