Shannon Elizabeth is a surprisingly competent player. Played with her in the wsop omaha8 event.

A very different person from the characters that she plays. Very intelligent.

It depends what counts as famous and what counts as a poker buff, but there is a former British Member of Parliament who played a couple of live tournaments during his period in office.

John Wayne and Jack Elam played a lot of poker on the movie sets. Elam retired to southern Oregon where he frequented the poker games until he died.
