Michigan State basketball starter Delvon Roe paid for his car with online poker winnings and frequents the cash games in the mid-Michigan area.
This made me laugh. Delvon Roe was a college student at the time, right? That's a great way to explain away a lot of booster's money. More likely this post should have read. "Delvon Roe paid for his online poker, cash games and car with the cash he gets from Michigan State alumni."
Hilliary Clinton plays according to an interview with Mario Lopez on Extra two nights ago. Mario asked her what's something we don't know about you. She replied I like to play cards. Mario then said (paraphrasing), "You mean like poker". She responded (paraphrasing), "Yeah that, and other games". Then Mario said (paraphrasing) Hmm, I better practice up on my poker.
And didn't Trump host The United States Poker Championship for a few years at one of his Atlantic City Casinos.

I guess she figured few people under 35 watch "Meet the Press" so I'll go after the "Saved by the Bell" fans.
It depends what counts as famous and what counts as a poker buff, but there is a former British Member of Parliament who played a couple of live tournaments during his period in office.

But did he run better in parliament or in the poker tornys?
Mario was covering the Iowa Primary results, and so they showed the interview again

There was also a poker mention in the Steve Martin episode of 'Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee' (with Jerry Seinfeld, on Crackle)
