He lost a ton live, then took a 1.2M 300/600 HU downswing. He's probably taking a really long break and will try to work up the ranks again. Needless to say, he has a ton of money locked away, he's financially fine.

Dude what??? Since when is embarking on a poker related venture selling out? Sure this usually happens after a longer career but i don't see how it constitutes selling out in any way shape or form. Or are you referring to them signing an exclusive deal with Full Tilt?

Maybe Townsend's temporarily lost his balls and wants to hang on to what he's won before ending up busto. Meanwhile he's developing (or hiding behind) a good thing he has going (Cardrunners).

I think that he's had to eat a lot of humble pie of late and when you think about his last few NLHE experiences, they weren't very good (think Bobby Baldwin and that attrocious hand against PA on Million Dollar Cash Game).

What? How can any poker player be a sell out? Poker is all about cash, just another form of hustling. There is nothing wrong with a poker player trying to make money. The only way they could sell out is if someone paid them not to play poker.

ftp signing + price increases + the big talent doing videos once a month max + advertising at the wsop satellites + spawning countless spin offs = sellout and its only getting worse. These guys soaked up info from 2+2 that only a committed 2+2er could learn and regurgitated it to the masses into an easy to follow video format. They exsposed the underground so call them the greenday of poker for killing the underground scene.

Good lord. I'd never looked at the full annual results for highstakesdb.com.

Last year on Full Tilt, NL Hold Em and PL Omaha:

Honestly I'm not sure about these numbers. Benyamine is the biggest winner? Doesn't sound quite right (although I've heard he's been on a huge roll at PLO, is that true?)

The site doesn't track LHE, mixed games or hi/lo so that might makes some difference, not sure.

And WOW at NOATAIMA.

ftp signing = strategic decision

price increases = inflation

the big talent doing videos once a month max = yes a letdown but if he's not playing poker then why do you want his vids? They've signed others like Peachy Keen to take his place / complement him.

advertising at the wsop satellites = zomg really ?!

Your last point about them selling the magician's tricks so to speak is fair but then every poker training site would be guilty of the same no?

And you wouldn't have done the same? I'm not a fan of either, I just believe that poker players don't really owe anyone anything. The info on 2+2 is still public, anyone could find it if they wanted. Cardrunners were smart enough to make it easier to find/understand. I see no problem with them signing with FTP and advertising their business. I'm pretty sure 99.99% of poker players would have done the same given the opportunity.

Fwiw I didn't know they increased their prices after signing with FTP, thats pretty shady.

and if he really is financially set for life and has more money coming in through cardrunners, why should he continue playing poker? Most play for the money but he doesn't need any more. And whatever the reason is whether hes just losing his edge or running bad its not fun to be one of the biggest losers on FTP over the last year.
