He coached Dennis Phillips! THE Dennis Phillips! You know, the guy who doesn't realize he didn't win the ME last year.

He only coached Dennis Phillips for a brief period. Joe McGowan's been his "poker coach" for much longer than Winston did. If the first and second place finishers are going to stay under the radar, the Chip Leader is going to milk the fame for as long as he can.

<3 Roy Winston and his blogs so much. He's like what I imagine Hellmuth would've been like when he first discovered poker and wanted to be part of the club.

Also he kinda looks like Kevin Trudeau, which obviously incurs bonus points.

His Full Tilt Training Academy video is one of the funniest poker-related things I've ever seen too. Keep it up roy :>

lol i remember one of the oracle's blog posts last year that said he was "shocked" that none of the november nine had approached him for coaching before the FT

and plz everyone...this is my thread, and i have one request. do not refer to the oracle as roy. refer to the oracle as the oracle. ty.

Pretty lame if you ask me. The guy got third. THIRD (and he was incredibly lucky to get third given how he self-destructed early in the FT). When does a guy who who gets third ever get any attention a year later? I mean, I guess getting more burly, bearded old guys into poker is a good thing or something????

Or he showed great skill to get 3rd after taking a huge hit to his stack early on.

Since when does a player that gets 3rd get attention a year later? Uhhhhh, since they created the NOVEMBER 9! That's kinda the point. Also, he made it deep in the main event which is notable regardless of the november 9 concept.

As for Winston, I don't know him personally, but he is a physician and a pilot and it is hard for me to respect someone like that. Physicians and pilots both give off the illusion that they are wealthy when both are simply upper-middle class. One can only make a few hundred grand a year piloting a plane and honestly nobody is gonna get wealthy from either job. These guys are from a lower class and should be treated as such.

Obviously cards helped everyone at some point. I think specifically they were talking about how he recovered chips after losing most of his stack to demidov in that one hand. He got queens. What do I know though, his tournament results crush mine.

Being from STL I have met Dennis Phillips a few times. He's a cool guy. Came to a charity poker tourney we had for nothing, had a great time was cool with people. He doesn't go around claiming to be the best player of all time. But who among us would turn down attention from a major tv network, or loads for sponsorship.
