When I lost my leg and the ambulance arrived, I kept screaming for a "tewer na kit". They stared at me with blank expressions while I bled out... so I tried "tore na kit" to which they looked at each other with ******ed expressions. Just before the light faded, I heard someone walk up and suggest a "TURN a kit" and saved my life.

tour·ni·quet
Pronunciation: \ˈtu̇r-ni-kət, ˈtər-\
Function: noun
Etymology: French, turnstile, tourniquet, from tourner to turn, from Old French — more at turn
Date: 1695

• noun (pl. tourneys) a medieval joust.

• verb (tourneys, tourneyed) take part in a tourney.

— ORIGIN Old French tornei, from Latin tornus.

tournament
• noun 1 a series of contests between a number of competitors, competing for an overall prize. 2 a medieval sporting event in which knights jousted with blunted weapons for a prize.

— ORIGIN Old French torneiement; related to TOURNEY.

So even in French and Latin it was tour not tur and always has been.

The dictionary you agree with is the best, and the ones you don't agree with are the worst. Obv.

tour-ni-kay is the correct pronounciation. You should campaign for English lessons for your ambulance crew or lives will be lost.
