Really? I don't think Vegas is that bad at all. The strip casinos have lots of hot chicks going to pools/clubs, good restaurants, etc.

LA card rooms and their surroundings have nothing but degenerates in comparison. Wanna make easy money and still feel depressed? Go play at the commerce.

Anyway, so the other night some younger people walked in who had obviously been at bars all night, most likely binge drinking. They were very rude and looked down on us as if we were bad people?? Who are these people? What gives them the right to walk into my local establishment where I chose to spend my time and money doing things I enjoy and snicker at me like I am strange?

I wish these people would go back to drinking their lives away and leave me and my fun to ourselves
The fact you are playing slots.

As opposed to slot machine players, who sit at a slot machine and smoke cigarettes (like drunks don't do that) and .... well that's about all slot machine players do. DISGUSTING!

POP QUIZ: who is more likely to drive run a red light and kill you in an auto accident, or more likely to take a wild swing at you on the sidewalk, or puke on your shoes in the men's room?

A) Drunken Frat Boys after a night at the bars
B) Old senior citizen slot machine players
C) Former United States Presidents
Its not your fault your dad was a mean drunk and beat you. Im sure he loved you very much, he just likes to hit things when he drinks.

ps) why you hate booze so much?

Casinos are miserable.

Not as miserable as all the people sitting in thier underwear in a room by themselves watching porn and playing Full Tilt.

that is truly miserable

I've only been to a casino a handful of times, but I see the same thing every time. Miserable trashy people pulling on slot machine levers at 3am. Like what the F are these people doing with their lives? It amazes me how many people just can sit there and do that ****. Theres just sooooo many people doing this too.

Ads always shed this casino in this "happy go lucky" light and instead its just glum, miserable, and antisocial people letting these machines slowly take their money.

Casinos are just so fake in general
Actually for most people it is just a diversion. I like what I heard one tourist say, she said "I like coming to Vegas because for 3 days my mind becomes mush and I forget my problems".

Internet is so awesome.....stay in home, don't deal with degens face to face....safe. There are some beautiful casinos like in vancouver but most are pretty degeny. I'd always be paranoid if I won money that I'd be robbed or something lol.

Meh i have been in a relationship for 3 or 4 years, so the girls are really just temptation that i don't fall into...i just went to Vegas as a 21yo to play Main Event, was there for 2 weeks and hated it, really hated it...its just allot of material things, superficial people, which could be found in any place you go, but in Vegas its fostered to an extreme...

I find that restaurants and pools, and relaxing places can be found in much better settings than Vegas, considering its in the middle of a ****** desert

EDIT: I also think that poker players make me hate the casinos, i mean unless your a true online grinder who has an appreciation for the randomness and luck involved in this game, i probably wont like you, just so naive /rant

Not saying all the stuff you're saying here has no validity, just not pertinent at all to what we were talking about. The discussion was about slot players looking miserable (unhappy) and you said basically same number of unhappy people in a bar. When I responded "at least drunks appear happier" , I'm talking about appearances, not actual happiness. You are going on and on about vehicular homicide and puking on shoes, which is fine if the discussion is "whose more dangerous to society" or "whose more irritating".

And while your bar scene description can be typical of a college bar scene, there are PLENTY of more low key bars out there where mature adults go to have a beverage and socialize with friends. To characterize everyone in a bar as Frank the Tank is just not accurate.

When I was a 20+ yo casinos were a dream visitation....

Dan Tanna driving around the glitzzy lights of Vega$.

I had no idea that as a 50YO I'd have a residence in ACity and LV.

At that time I concentrated on skool - U knw? i thk its cld "UNIVERSITY" or "College" here in the US. It was supposed to get me a real job, a career and something that would make me be productive and positive. I had a choice to give it up and play cards in LA. Maybe I brushed shoulders with the owners of 2+2 in those heydeys at Bell Gardens.

I reckon a lot of people did that (they did get jobs) and they saved some money and in retirement they have loads or maybe one of their spouses left them a fortune and these folks have nothing else with their time and sit in casino and feel comfortable.

This is not a downer on casinos... Because they did improve things!!!

Were you ever in ACity before the casinos opened up in the 1970s? Truly that was a pit compared to it today (Even in the Great Recession).

My brother started there in late 1978. Those early days and experience were enough to land him a job when the Adelaide Casino opened up in 1985. He's been there ever since.
His prosperity is because of the career he chose. Maybe he does have some regrets but he is not a complete whitewash and he does have a family and a house.

The proliferation of casinos since has been a money grabber of state governments who want to cash in on extra available $$$$ that individuals have while not raising taxes.
Look at whats happened in the last 10 years and the rate at which states are opening up new casinos.

Advice - If you don't want to see those folks in the casino that make you miserable - DON'T GO THERE! Get a job or find a career far from there which will not tempt you!

It's really quite simple!

The wife and I always joked that to play the slots you need to either have an oxygen tank, be seated on a scooter, or be over 70 years old and still smoking...and sometimes all three. Then, we saw something that we could not believe...there was an elderly lady playing slots who had an IV bag attached to a pole of her scooter...an FRIGGIN' IV BAG! It must have contained nutrition of some kind, rather than being attached to a catheter, as it was hanging above her head. But, it wouldn't surprise me if some of the slot players also had catheters!

I really don't see why so many people play slots, it is a little depressing to see all those foolish suckers while I am walking to the poker room.

A lot of my friends & family actually think the same way about online poker. To most "regular", non-poker players online poker looks like the worst, most boring activity to do. (And then you tell them about MTT-grinders and pee bottles lol).

I do love poker. But I think the only thing that makes it "better" then slot machines is that you can have an edge and that you actually influence the outcome. And it's a great mind game.

But looking at grinding from the outside and comparing it to some other activities: riding waves, hiking in the alps, snowboarding, playing soccer with your son etc. it looks like a pretty boring/sad activity.

Casino's are depressing if you're losing, or if you care about other people losing their money. And if you care about other people losing their money, you're probably losing.
