Yet another sign-up by Stars. This one will have nods of approval throughout Europe........

VICTORIA COREN JOINS TEAM POKERSTARS

UK’s ‘Princess of Poker’ signs for the world’s largest online poker site

London, UK – April 24th, 2008: PokerStars.com, the world’s largest online poker site, today announced the addition of Victoria Coren to Team PokerStars Pro. Ranked 10th in the Women’s All Time Money Winners List[i], Coren was the 2006 London European Poker Tour Champion and is the UK’s second most successful female player with lifetime tournament winnings of over $1.2 million.

Coren took up poker aged 16 and has been a regular cash game player at London’s Grosvenor Victoria Casino for a number of years. In EPT Season 3, she became one of the most popular champions ever when she claimed the fist prize of £500,000 at her home casino, ‘The Vic’.

Away from the baize, Victoria Coren is a well-known author, journalist and broadcaster. She writes weekly columns for The Observer and Guardian newspapers and has presented the BBC TV programme Balderdash and Piffle as well as BBC Radio 4’s Off the Page show. She also regularly appears as a guest on other radio comedy and discussion shows and has provided commentary for several televised poker tournaments.

Thomas Wyse, PokerStars.com UK Marketing Manager said: “Vicky is probably the most popular female poker player in the UK and certainly one of the most successful. Not only is she the first and only woman to win an EPT, but she has proved to be an enthusiastic and eloquent ambassador for poker in general.”

“I’m genuinely proud and happy to be an ambassador for PokerStars, I have played on the site for years,” said Coren. “And I’m especially delighted to help promote the EPT, which was already my favourite tournament series even before I won in London. The only difference is that I used to play it in cheaper shoes. Team PokerStars Pro, is a line up of some of the most exciting and memorable characters in modern poker, I’m really chuffed to be joining them.”

Victoria Coren will play the European Poker Tour and other tournaments alongside her fellow members of Team PokerStars Pro including world champions Chris Moneymaker, Greg Raymer and Joe Hachem, poker legends Barry Greenstein, Daniel Negreanu and a host of other EPT champions and elite players including Luca Pagano, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Dario Mineri and Isabelle Mercier.

good signing hope the douche neil chenning doesn't get signed because of her ala chadbrown style.

I think she's pretty solid from what people have told me too so I'm all for decent women who can play being signed.

Vicky Coren is the coolest. I first got to spend a significant amount of time with her at the Monte Carlo EPT. She is easily one of the wittiest people in poker and would be my first call for any poker broadcasting gig you can name.

She did a couple of stints on EPT Live with us, and just nailed it.

Unfortunately, her best line of the week (maybe the best line of the week) came during the "Stars of Poker" sit-and-go, in which she participated, but few people were around to hear it. She was explaining some bizarre whacked-out version of poker and saying that if PokerStars would offer it, they'd bring in huge numbers in Blackpool. Then she continued...

Quote:
"Blackpool is the Las Vegas of the north, you know. Only the weather isn't as good and the women don't dress quite so tastefully."
In response to, "Vicky, have you ever played 6-card Omaha?", she gave me a brief blank look and then said, absolutely straight-faced, "Is there another way to play it?"

This is a huge win for PokerStars and I'm delighted to see Vicky get this attention. Props to ConradB at PokerStars for landing this one - I'm sure he was integral to the deal.

Regards, Lee

if solid means 3 betting half her stack in middle position and folding to a shove from the original raiser, then she sure is

and this was after her ept win

Her commentary on the EPT live was awful, sorry Lee I had to mute it.

I wish her all the best anyway, whilst she is a live player so has probably tonnes of LOL leaks from what I hear she is still at least a half decent player.

I don't know if she's any good as a player, but she has a really nice voice and I thought her commentary on the GUKPT was excellent.

Great commentator, beats live cash at the Vic and has had numerous cashes, inc the ept win - she is also a journo by trade and very comfortable speaking in public so will be a solid marketable product. Prob the best signing ive heard of for a while.

But it is a bit meh that stars told timex a couple months ago they wouldnt be signing anyone until the wsop. Unless they did sign him up and i didnt hear about it of course.

Neil isn't a douche Shaun. He made a couple of mild comments after you were knocked out that a reporter decided to print in an attempt to stir up some controversy. You've said worse to me in chat on Full Tilt for no reason at all.

she seemed a little bit annoying at first when i turned on the monte carlo live feed but i warmed up to her after listening for a while. also in her defense almost all poker commentators are either hilariously ridiculous (i.e. VVP) or extremely annoying and consistently making terrible hand analysis (ali nejad, gabe kaplan etc) besides lederer. and she definitely has much better credentials for being a sponsored pro than like 95% of the FTP/stars pros.
