Vicky winning ought to contribute to some kind of rise in the popularity of poker in the United Kingdom albeit probably on a short term basis. Now that she's married to David Mitchell she seems to be more high profile. I have already seen a few people on Facebook posting about it who obviously had no clue of the poker world beforehand.

Congrats to her, definitely deserved.

I love her, great news ... but I was very very surprised comparing her prize with Liv's four years ago. Why has the prize pool decreased so much???

Because poker is dead. Seriously though, the buy-in, entries and payout% were all lower than 4 years ago.

If the buy-in and payout% remained constant, she would have won an extra €84k.

This happens on average twice a series according to the data...

This event had an unusually small number of entrants, around 550 iirc. I heard about a number of players saying they'd skip San Remo and go straight to Monte Carlo. My guess is italian online poker regulations has had a fair impact on this.

Possibly the worst player ever to win a single EPT has now become the only player ever to win two of them. Not bad for someone who thinks that when you are first to act you aren't out of position as long as you go all in.

So what evidence do you need that she has some unusual skills? Have you any idea how hard it is to make even day three of an EPT by luck? I really thought a second win would be enough to silence even the dimmest of doubters.

Interesting that the article was written by a member of the very team I was referring to...
Also interesting that he makes a huge amount about the average scores achieved on each round. A classic example of how statistics can be used incorrectly.
The wall round scores so high on average because both teams do well on it and aren't competing against each other to reach their score.
The missing vowels round is completely different. Teams are competing against each other. Scores of 11-0 and 6-5 have the same total score.

Sure. However:
In 99 episodes over the first seven series there have been just 14 occasions where a team losing after the walls have gone on to win - and two of those were on a tie-break.

OK, so in my earlier post I was wrong about it being single-digit, but if that round is responsible for only 14 changes in results then clearly it's not the critical round that you're making it out to be.

I would recommend reading paragraph 3 of this article

It shows how important missing vowels is...

I take it you didn't see Stevic recently. Bonavena is also pretty awful.

I have seen all the evidence I need. She used to post on the Hendon Mob forum which was supposed to be a bit of a plug for her newspaper column, but turned out to be an exhibition of what a poor grasp of the fundamentals she had.

Live from the Two Plus Two Studios - This week Mike and Adam welcome Victoria Coren-Mitchell back to the show, fresh off making history by becoming the first person to win two EPT titles. Vicky breaks down a few of the hands she played at the final table as well as the approach she used on her way to victory. The guys have a little fun with her and her game show, Only Connect by turning the tables on her to see how she does as the game show contestant, rather than the host. Vicky also tells us the story of how she caught a bunch of freeloaders showing up to memorial services for people they don't know. The big story this week is the Borgata Spring Poker Open debacle resolution and Matt Savage drops by to give his thoughts on the outcome. There is also more Borgata talk as Mike and Adam give their thoughts on the the casino suing Phil Ivey for his huge baccarat wins. A new Sklansky minute is aired and of course, the password for the April 27th Pokerstars Invitational for Pokercast listeners is revealed.

I was a bit saddened by her tank with the AT on the river tho. Kind of made her look a bit like a donk. She should've known what she was going to do if he shoved before she bet the river. Nonetheless, more proof that you don't need to be a world beater to bink a high stakes mtt. She's obv a good player. Just a slight critique on my part.

actually she played very well and in the bit that i watched/paid attention to, she leveraged some dolty italian with a perfectly sized 4b in a great spot with 57o early at the final table. typical mouthbreathing nvg.

vicky is wonderful, congrats on the well deserved second win

edit: lol @ the dolt above me not realizing that a snapcall in his daily $11 mtt might be something to pause and give a second thought to when you're playing for a second ept title

She was feature guest on this weeks Pokercast and she explains her thinking.

She said she apologized as soon as he shoved saying 'I'm not slowrolling. I have a huge hand but just need to think for a few seconds'. She said it was less than 1% he had AA/KK, and while Tx was far and away the most likely, FH was definitely a possibility based on the situation and the history.

Also, far less Americans made the trip as there were back to back $5m gtd events in Florida/Borgata running at the same time as San Remo
