As has been said it's hard to judge just from TV, but from the decent amount I've seen her on TV she has seemed like an unextremely unlikeable person. Definitely would have preferred someone like mement_mori to have taken it down

I suspect there is noone in this thread that judges and insults her because she is successful. Having said that I like her a lot and if not suffering fools gladly is your worst character flaw you're doing OK.

from what i've seen vanessa is very much a douchebro. her personality is very much like that of a stereotypical rich frat boy (american). she overcompensates trying to act tough, makes snidely elitist comments, offends people without knowing it, etc.

if you are cool with that, you will be cool with vanessa. if not, she will grate on you. to me, she does come of as more authentic than typical douchebros when she's trying to be nice, and she's obviously got the intelligence thing going for her which makes me forgive a lot in people's personalities, but she's still a douchebro.

regardless, she is one of the top few tournament players in the world today. it is highlighted by the yawning gulf between her and the second place woman (boeree? x liu?). no one right now is in the same universe as her as far as females go. i could see one of the other female pros have a huge $5 mil year, but never post consistent results like selbst. i wish there were another female on her level, because sexists can compartmentalize selbst as an aberration. say things like, as a lesbian she has male brain chemistry.

all time, maybe you still have leibert, harman, jj liu above her. certainly they would be above every other current mainstream female pro. i personally think selbst is better than all of them though and that she will produce results through middle age.

Great tournament player no doubt, but for a person that has been around poker so long and had so much success you would think she would be able to handle herself with a little bit more class and humility. And for someone that has run so far above expectation over her career, you would think she would know better than to bitch and moan anytime she thinks shes "running bad."

I really don't get this hate for Vanessa. In an industry full of arrogant over confident pricks (Phil Hellmuth or Tony G anyone?), why does the community nit pick on someone who shows these traits in a relatively small way, but will still chase after a player (Deeb) to apologise for sucking out on them on the river?

Vanessa is a class act, and if anyone has earned the right to be a little arrogant, it would be her, and her amazing results over the past few years.

Could this be anything to do with her appearnce, or the fact she's gay? I hope not, because I've always considered the poker community to be open and non-judgemental, but looking at this thread, I may have to look at that again.
